Deductions - PLEASE READ!

So, Sherlock constantly deduces. He might not spell it out, but there are certain things he's going to figure out. In order to avoid stepping on anybody's toes, therefore, this is a handy way to tell me the basics in terms of what he can and can't deduce about your characters. If a plot hinges on something Sherlock's deduced, then there'll probably ( Read more... )

Character: Mukuro Rokudo

What can he know, and- if you like- how might he know it? Mukuro was abused as a child - his family treated him as a test subject for experimental spells and potions designed to make him stronger and more useful. He has some physical evidence of this, mainly his eye as well as a few less noticable scars, but the most obvious evidence is just the way he interacts with people and the fact that he doesn't live with his family and hardly ever even talks about them. Also, he is an asshole.

Hand in hand with the above, since abuse is one of the contributing factors, Mukuro displays some definite sociopathic tendencies (which I'm sure Sherlock's pretty familiar with). He's not a true sociopath, but Mukuro can be extremely manipulative and he basically doesn't give a shit about anyone unless they've proved that they're useful or interesting in some way. Until that point he'll mess with them for kicks and then ignore them, after that point he'll... well, just pay more attention and mess with them even more.

The way Mukuro acts isn't hidden at all, it's just that connecting all the dots to 'child abuse victim' and 'potential sociopath' isn't really something normal kids would do, but I assume Sherlock would make the connections pretty fast (at least with the last one). The only thing Mukuro does try to hide is that he actually cares a little about some people and is capable of doing somewhat nice things for them - he'd really prefer people think he's a complete manipulative asshole. That would be more difficult to notice, since it's only evident around certain people, but it's fair game for Sherlock.

What can he not figure out? Mukuro murdered his whole family when he was nine. It wasn't a small family, either. While it's probably in his school records and it wouldn't be impossible to do research and find out about it (since it was in papers at the time), it's not something that's possible to pick up without plenty of work, since it's been a few years and he's changed his name since then. I'd be up for Sherlock find out as part of a plot, of course! Just not out of the blue.

Is messing with your character's head with said knowledge out of the question? It's fine with me! Mukuro will probably try to pretend it doesn't bother him and then do his best to mess with Sherlock's head in return.

Anything else? Not that I can think of.

Character: Souji Okita

What can he know, and- if you like- how might he know it? Souji is kind of a kendo genius, and although it's usually not obvious, Sherlock might notice that he sometimes moves and reacts like a trained martial artist. He's got a good awareness of his body and where people are around him, though he's not about to flip out and attack anyone.

Also, he's actually deeper and more mature than he acts most of the time. Souji's playfulness isn't a complete act, but he does deliberately play it up. He's spent a lot of time training seriously, but no one plays with you if you act all serious fighter-y. :( So while he's actually more mature than a lot of boys his age, he exaggerates his immaturity in order to have more fun. This might be obvious in the way he's careful never to go too far when he's messing around, or just the way he talks and acts sometimes.

What can he not figure out? When Souji is practicing or sparring, he has a hard time holding back. He's injured a few sparring partners this way in the past, although he thinks he's got control of it now. I actually have no problem with Sherlock figuring this out, it's just that he couldn't unless he somehow hung out while Souji was practicing with someone else, which... well, Souji has no kendo practice partners at Hogwarts, so yeah. It's kind of impossible.

Is messing with your character's head with said knowledge out of the question? Go for it! Though neither of the first two are big secrets or anything - Souji just likes it better when people think he's a normal wacky kid instead of a kendo genius. He's not lying to anyone, just not making a big deal about being able to slice people's faces off, so it might be hard to mess with his head effectively.

Anything else? Anything in his journal is fair game, too.
