Folk Psychology and Intentional action

Does the notion of intentional action hold any commitments to folk psychology? That is, if I think that X has done A intentionally, must I have some other thoughts that include what I think that X's beliefs and preferences are? Or can I do it without these things? Do I have to leave behind the traditional notion of intentional action: that it rests on factors such as foresight, trying, and so forth?

Basically, if you are Paul Churchland, or Daniel Dennett, can you say that Mary intentionally stepped on your hand without buying into a paradigm you abjure?

Any thoughts?
