I'm still not really here. You don't see me. It's very late, and I'm exhausted, and I've spent too much time with the internetz tonight, but I wanted to get this out there into the world. Hopefully
babykid528 doesn't mind me sharing her present.

Castiel spotted his older brother in a corner of the forest where Gabriel could usually be found, lying on his back beneath the shade of an elm tree.
Castiel carefully crept up and sat down on the ground beside him.
“Hey,” he said.
Gabriel grunted softly in response. He was awake but his eyes were closed. Castiel watched the broken sunlight dance across his face, leaving soft shadows where it fell through the canopy of leaves above them. He slowly pulled his attention away and silently plucked at a few blades of grass, watching them magically repair themselves under his careful gaze and steady fingers.
“Thanks,” Castiel said after a few moments.
Gabriel opened one eye and squinted up at the young angel sitting next to him. The grass beneath him was cool and soft, and he wiggled his fingers in it where they lay folded beneath his head. “For what?” he asked.
“You know.” Castiel shifted nervously. “Back there.” He ducked his head, but he knew Gabriel could still see the flush in his cheeks.
Gabriel nudged his little brother’s hip with his elbow. “Hey. No problem, squirt,” he said.
Castiel cringed at the nickname but bit back a smile all the same as he gently swatted at his brother. He loved Gabriel, the one brother that was always there for him no matter what, there to stand beside him and keep him steady when no one else would. There to keep him out of trouble, and sometimes…like today...be the one to rescue him when the other angels’ bullying got a little too vicious. Gabriel was his strength, and without him Castiel would be lost. He knew he would.
After a few moments Castiel sighed heavily and threw himself backwards onto the ground.
“Why do they have to be so mean, Gabe."
Gabriel sighed. "They're just jealous, Cas," he said.
“Shut up, they are not,” Castiel pouted.
“No, no. I’m serious, squirt.”
Castiel looked over at his brother. “Yeah? You really think so?” he said softly.
Gabriel nodded seriously, and then with a gleam in his eye he turned to Cas. “They’re just jealous of your awesomeness," he winked.
Castiel laughed loudly and shoved his brother in the side. “Shut up. You’re such a loser,” he said.
Gabriel chuckled quietly and reached out, sliding an arm underneath Cas’ shoulders and squeezing him tightly.
Castiel curled in towards him, always reaching towards his light and his goodness, the brightest parts of him that Castiel most wanted to hold on to and that Gabriel always seemed willing to give.
“I love you, Cas,” Gabriel murmured after a few minutes, one of his rare serious moments that Castiel felt proud to be able to pick up on so quickly.
“Love you too, Gabe,” he whispered, and he turned his head, pressing his nose against Gabriel’s shoulder and breathing him in, letting Gabriel’s grace wrap around him to keep him safer than any gift their Father had ever given him.
