Slash 101 - Are there rules for this shit? Because seriously...
I"m...confused. Supernatural fans, I think I need your help.
As I've said before, I'm somewhat new to the whole fandom/fanfic/slash stuff. I'm still not sure how it works, exactly, because I haven't been around it for very long. I'm curious how certain pairings get started, both in RL and fiction, and I mean, I can see the trends and the logic in how/why they're formed, but I'm still fascinated by the concept of them from a sociological standpoint.
Some are obvious:
Kirk/Spock
Some, while a little unconventional, are still obvious:
Nathan/Peter (hey I don't even watch Heroes, and I still get it)
And then there are some that just...don't make any sense. At all. Whatsoever:
Sam/Gabriel
Now, I'm not one to knock someone's pairing, because hey, whatever tickles your pickle, right? But this pairing has been causing me some serious distress over the past month or so, because it's so freaking popular! If it was just one or two people writing it, I'd say hmm, clever pairing, interesting plot device, whatever. But damnit if it's not like a big freakin deal, and I DON'T GET IT!
Someone please explain to me why Sam/Gabriel is so popular, because I'm sorry, I just don't see the logic in it at all. I mean, maybe I missed something while watching the show, but I didn't see these characters interact in any way that hinted at anything even slightly subtextual. I just don't understand! THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO ME! AND I DO NOT LIKE BEING FRUSTRATED!
