So, upon friends' recommendations (Thanks Ky, and whoever else poked me towards it), I hinted heavily at my desire to read the Temeraire books; happily, my mother obliged.
Holy shit, you guys! They're so incredibly good! :DD So far I've read the first two and am making good headway into the third, and fully intend to snatch up the fourth the moment I can get my eager little paws on it.
So, now that I'm getting interested in this really compelling and well-crafted universe, I find I've a hankering for some Temeraire fanfiction. Or actually, not technically Temeraire fic; you see, what I really want to read is some fic dwelling on the story of Yongxing and Lien. Their relationship fascinates me; there's so much to it that we readers, seeing things as we do through Laurence's limited, outsider eyes. The kind of deep love and affection that must exist for a man to give up his throne, and which must further mature as the pair are cut off through superstition from any other friendship or relationship, is really compelling. I'd really love to read the events of Throne of Jade, and perhaps events earlier, from Yongxing's perspective. He must have had reasons for acting as he did.
So now I'm off to search up some fanfic.
