DEVIL'S NIGHT 2009
Devil's Eve, Devil's Night, Gate Night, Trick Night, Mischief Night; whatever your name for it might be, the chaos is still the same. Contrary to popular belief, this festival of pandemonium isn't unique to Detroit. Falling on October 30th, it is an evening of mayhem and destruction. On the gentler side, it may be celebrated by practical jokes, an egging, Ding-Dong-Ditch, or enthusiastic TP'ing of your most hated neighbor's trees, and on the more violent side, arson and vandalism. This is the scent of autumn night, fires in the distance, with a touch of boozy swoon, playful sugar and thuggish musk.
Been wearing this for about 3-4 hours now. This scent undergoes one of the more extreme metamorphosis I've sniffed. Wet, it smells like some kind of sweet, spicey candy; not as overwhelmingly sugary as Midnight on the Midway, and not bad, but I don't think I'd like it if it stayed that way. Fortunately, it turns into this very nice, very interesting scent. There's still a touch of something sticky sweet, but it's not an overtly foody sweet (I don't dig food smells; that's just not the kind of 'eating' I want people to think of, ya know?). It smells mostly like a slightly humid autumn night, somewhere in the high 50sF, falling leaves, with a solid base of smoke and musk. Sexier than Chant d'Automne. All in all, yum!
Actually, sniffing away at my wrist here, I'm struck by the way the nuances, the interplay of smokiness and sticky sweetness and this very nice, sensual musk. Mmmm, this is obviously a very fun autumn night.
