I found all the fat people in Paris.

Sadly, they are at McDonald's ("MacDoo" to the French). Yesterday, I went to check my email there because the café I usually go to is closed on Sundays and I heard they had a kick-ass free WiFi connection. It was a massive attack of the senses. First of all, I've never seen a McDonald's so busy in my entire life. I had heard it was trendy, but MY GOD! There were all sorts of people: families, teenagers, professional-types in their 30's, and even cool 20-something's. I don't get it! Don't they KNOW how much better their food is than that crap? And I thought maybe the portions would be smaller or it would smell differently; but no, everything was exactly the same except everyone was speaking French. It was completely depressing and strangely comforting at the same time. And their WiFi connection was quite nice...but I just know that America will be blamed for the rise in obesity in France.

But now, thankfully, I am back at my favorite café where the owner gives me extra biscuits with my coffee and I don't actually feel like I'm just in some bizarro version of America. I am in a blissfully good mood: Robert Rauschenberg's Combines Exhibit will be at Centre Pompidou for like three months. This is the very same exhibition that I saw at the Met In January that changed my life in ways I can't even explain and now I live in a city where I get to see it as many times as I want. PLUS I get to show it to my friends who will be visiting! The Pompidou (the modern art museum) is the coolest building, if you're interested there's a great picture of it on the website:

The French sure love to bum cigarettes (and lights). I think I just gave one to a teenager (not that he couldn't buy em, the age is 16 here). It reminds me of that Regina Spektor song...

As thankful as I am for LJ and Facebook and MySpace, etc for allowing me to keep in touch with everyone, I have to give it up to snail mail. I love writing/receiving letters!! And my correspondance with people has almost completely taken the place of journaling in my life. This is great, because you can actually put into words how you feel about people (that you may have taken for granted before) as well as strengthen relationships and reflect on where you are in your own life. If you are not a letter writer, I encourage you to become one. Although, don't forget to include a full zipcode. I accidently mailed two letters this morning without remembering to go back and add the zip. I hope they get there eventually...
