Part of a letter from Anais Nin to Antonin Artaud:

Anyhow, all of this is unimportant, because we never live two identical experiences, you know that. Each new contact creates a new experience. You will never know me through my past, only through what I am to you and with you. And that is so because you and what you are call forth the best of me; you exorcise and bring forth a me that others have not known. And by that I don’t mean that I will cease to be what I am, because I have much to give you. Our “opposites attract,” our complementary quality, is good. I feel that I will bring you the marvelous savor of material things, a coalescence born of warmth and the facility I have for moving like a river. I feel that with me, you will feel alienated less often. You will unite with life because I will offer it to you saturated with spirit, and that is an embrace that also works great miracles. There will be less fog, fewer halts, less anguish -the union between you and me will be prolonged in a symbolic coalescence of all the elements. Water is movement, and in water one creates! I love you.
