[Hello, Adstringendum! Have your very favorite Tenth Doctor, alive and well and looking happier than he has in a long time. He's wearing a flannel pajama top which is unbuttoned as far as its visible in the PCD, and his hair is as messy as ever.]

[There are a few moments of silence, before Jack lets loose with his extremely pissed-off captain act. It is practically a snarl, if we must be honest.]

Are you completely fucking insane?

[It's not until a bit later that the Doctor finally returns the message, wincing a little at the venom in the captain's voice.]

I am so very very sorry you had to find out like this...Please just let me talk to you in person and I'll try to explain.

[He doesn't care if you're goddamn wincing, Doctor, your puppy-eyes don't work on him anymore and you both know it.]

Fallingwater. 20 minutes.

[He shuts off the PCD and immediately runs to throw on a coat. There's a minute's hesitation before he wraps the scarf the Master gave him for Christmas around his neck. Seconds later he's out the door and walking to Fallingwater, anxiety coursing through his veins.

He arrives a bit early, hesitating at the door.]

[Jack opens it after a moment or two, standing in the doorway, arms crossed. His face is thunderous, to say the very least, and he is trying his best to keep his voice as controlled as he possibly can.]

Do you want to explain, or shall I just punch you straight off?

[He is in so much trouble. Master is going to get a talking to when he gets home.]

If you could spare me a chance to at least attempt to explain, I'll do my best.

[He really should have planned this out beforehand. He bites his lip slightly and rubs the back of his head, trying to think of a good way to phrase it.]

I...hardly expected this, believe me. Though I suppose after almost a millenia I should have seen it coming. It's just...I don't know. He's different than anyone I know and it's the strangest thing but he makes me...almost happy. [He smiles weakly.]

[The smile vanishes, to be replaced by a visible wince. That hurts, Jack. The wince passes quickly and his expression hardens somewhat.]

That isn't fair.

Neither is this. What -- he tortured you! He's insane!

I can't say I haven't dated people like that, but -- he's -- how can you even think about doing this when you've got god knows how many perfectly good people in love with you as it is?

[Not that he's talking about himself, not anymore, but still.]

I am not an idiot! I fancy myself as being rather brilliant, actually! You're just not understanding exactly how brilliant this decision is that I've made!

You of all people I thought could understand how wearing it is to trade your own happiness for everyone else's. All my lives I never thought I could ever be as happy as I was as a child. I gave up on that chance for people like you! You humans, so below being worth my attention, yet I chose to protect you.

And now I have a chance to make things right with the Master! He's my oldest friend, you know that, and I ruined everything when we were children. I was so selfish I doomed both of us for the rest of our lives, but look at him now! He's happy, and I'm happy!

Don't you dare ruin that for me, Jack. Because you can't tell me I haven't earned it.
