Again with the posting this way after the fact.
Somehow, this one was harder to translate that Chapter 1. Dunno why. If anyone catches any mistakes, pleeeease tell me so I don’t make them again. :D
Chapter 2
Gakibara “if” Special
“if ~ Mune-kun’s Fantasy Story”
~ Behind the Scenes Conclusion Part 1 ~
Toumei-tan[1] and Mune-kun’s Super Hot x100 Story
This summer, the “if… ~Mune-kun’s Fantasy Story ~” that aired as part of “Gakibara Teikoku 2000[2]!” was a wonderful project that touched a lot of people. In the popular “Test Rangers Arashi,[3]” when Soru Muneshizu’s mother told him, “You’re four already, so you need to do some things yourself!” it was seen as an opportunity, and Ninomiya-kun dressed as an Invisible Man helped create the fantasy story in reality.
“At first, it was a little weird because Mune-kun honestly believed it, but as he grew little by little, it got to be really touching.”
And there is no doubt that anyone who was watching must have felt those feelings come through.
With his entire body wrapped in bandages to become Mune-kun’s favorite picture book’s (“The Invisible Man”) main character, Ninomiya-kun rather enthusiastically having come to terms with the following said,
“We were together for a whole month, and of course, he probably didn’t think of my as anything other than “the Invisible Man,” but it was fun to see the trouble a real little brother can be.”
Well then, I thought that this time would be a “Behind the Scenes Conclusion” collection, and the first would be a “secret” story from the “Fantasy Story.”
The night Ninomiya-kun couldn’t sleep…
“I really have to go in the onsen? In this getup?!”
Mune-kun’s family of four was taking a summer vacation to the hot springs, and going to the same place was Ninomiya-kun as “Toumei-tan” (Mune-kun’s nickname for him as the invisible man).
“Go take a bath by yourself!” was what Mune-kun’s mother had told him, and so there was a scene of them in the onsen.
“Come on, Nino, it’d be weird for the Invisible Man to take off his bandages, wouldn’t it?”
“We-well, yeah, I guess…” Nino replied to the director, but still not having agreed.
To Mune-kun, taking a bath with his absolute favorite “Ninomiya-kun of Arashi” would have made him extremely happy, but it would never have been approved to be put in the show.
“Y’know… I kinda have a bad feeling about this…”
“How so?”
“I don’t know if I can really explain it, but… somehow, I think I’m not going to sleep too well tonight…”
“…? Quit talking nonsense and hurry up and get ready to be on standby! You’re just worried, Nino. That Mune-kun’s going to drown in the tub or something.”
“D-drown?!”
I would have been better off if I’d firmly set aside my own worries at that time… And much to Ninomiya-kun’s chagrin, he did indeed have a terrible time, saying, “I can’t sleep~!!”
“Toumei-tan” is hot, hot, hot!!
“Mune-kun, you gotta wash your body.”
“’kay.”
Wearing the Invisible Man clothes, Ninomiya-kun was using his odd voice and watching over Mune-kun. (All right… if Mune can keep being mature like this, nothing else can go wrong!) Even though Mune-kun really hated the bath and wanted out as soon as possible, until now, the shoot had been going what you could even call “smooth.”
“Okay, here comes the water.”
“’kay.”
And while he was helping Mune-kun rinse, (Oh no! Of course you’re going to get dizzy with those clothes in somewhere that hot) Ninomiya-kun got lightheaded. Well, of course he would. It’s a given that wearing a body suit into the bath is going to be hot.
“Shall we get out soon?”
“’kay, you too, Toumei-tan.”
“Eh?”
Mune-kun had dipped his wash bucket in the water with the intention of washing the Invisible Man, apparently. And all of a sudden in the back of my mind, I had a terrible feeling.
“Th-thank you.”
But, Mune-kun seemed to be doing this on his own. He would have felt bad if he’d been turned down.
“Okay!!”
“Gah--! Ho-HOT!”
Yes, anyone who has watched what was aired should know at least up to here. Mune-kun had gotten extremely hot water from the bathroom’s faucet, and was spiritedly continuing to pour water on the Invisible Man’s back.
“And, CUT!”
The director couldn’t stand to watch anymore, and called the cut. The staff took Mune-kun out of the bath. At the same time he was making sure the staff got Mune-kun, Ninomiya-kun was going, “Hot-hot-hot-hot-freakin’-hot!!” and getting out of his Invisible Man costume.
“Y-you okay, Nino?”
“No way I’m okay! I just got soaked by a ton of scalding hot water!!”
Because the water had been dumped out over his body, though, it had quickly cooled down. And due to the combination of bandages and being soaked in hot water for so long, Ninomiya’s body looked as if it was in the middle of filming a hot water commercial.
“Sorry, sorry… But it was really pretty funny.”
“Y-yeah, well, we’ll see. It was seriously hot, though!”
Ninomiya-kun had been hit with the water on his back down to his butt and on his thighs.
“Look at this, I’m completely red!!”
And indeed, where the hot water had been freely soaking, the skin had turned more red than the rest; just that part of his back was red.
“Wow, really… But at least Mune-kun didn’t find us out.”
“Oh, come on…!”
This shoot was definitely hard on his body. On the other hand, we probably got a really hilarious scene out of it, but to Ninomiya-kun it was a terrible shoot.
Nino’s been caught by the Invisible Man’s curse?!
“Ugh… What time is it…?”
After the shoot, Ninomiya-kun had finally gone home and gotten into his own bed.
“Tomorrow’s an early day, too… I’ve gotta get to sleep soon.”
And though he tried his hardest to fall asleep, his mind wouldn’t calm down and his eyes wouldn’t stay closed... but more than that, his back was hurting and stinging to the point where he couldn’t sleep.
“Well, this sucks. And I was doing fine up until now, too.”
And until he’d gotten home, all he’d thought of it was, “wow, today’s shoot was crazy and hot,” and laughed about it with the crew and staff, and yet at soon as he got home and got into bed, his back started stinging and hurting really badly because of the hot water Mune-kun had poured on him.
“Man, this sucks… Why does it still hurt after so long?” And then, Ninomiya-kun suddenly remembered a certain “terrible secret” he’d heard some time ago.
“No-no way… it’s not that…?”
“That” was, of course, a curse…
In ghost stories and monster stories, the protagonist (like Oiwa-san, right?) always has to dispel some evil to avert some disaster happening… or at least, that was what he’d heard from a certain actress he’d acted with.
“Right… That’s it! Since I’m being the Invisible Man, it must be the Invisible Man’s Curse that’s got me!”
Having thought that, the aches and pains in his body seemed to spread all over.
“Wh-what do I do…! Tomorrow I’ll just have to go straight to the director and get him to help me. Mune couldn’t be cursed, too, could he…?”
And in the end, Ninomiya-kun didn’t manage to sleep at all, having been terrified and stayed up with the lights on.
“Curse… it’s a curse… Sir Invisible Man, I’m sorry!”
But the next day, all of Ninomiya-kun’s worries were dispersed by one sentence from Sakurai-kun.
“Nino, you know that the Invisible Man was just a guy who drank a potion some scientist came up with, right? It’s completely different from ghosts and monsters.”
“Oh, right!!”
And the reassured Ninomiya-kun slept enough that night to make up from the sleepless night before.
P.S. … Thanks to that, the next day I was able to get a good night’s sleep, period.
A/N:
[1] The Japanese word for “Invisible Man” is “Toumei Ningen,” so Mune’s nickname of “Toumei-tan” is something like “Mr. Invisible” (although -tan is a very “childish” suffix)
[2] “Gakibara Teikoku” could probably be translated to something like “The Brat Empire,” I think.
[3] “Juken Sentai, Arashi,” literally “Examination Soldiers, Arashi” but I picked the Power Rangers reference, because it’s more fun.
Chapter 3 is part 2 of the Behind the Scenes story...
