How to run hidejournal 0.3. (Slanted towards Windows users)

Make sure you're not using tags.

Because HideJournal was written before the introduction of tags to LiveJournal, it will strip tags from entries. You should expect to have to back them up and restore them by hand if you want to use the current release of HideJournal.
Download java

HideJournal requires java. You will need to download and install it ( Read more... )

I have the same problem as momgoddess, it just doesn't do anything at all! I've hidden my two other journals (side-journals, nothing very important there) without a hitch, and the very moment that I click RUN, I get to see each entry being hidden...
but for my merryjest account, where I have the core of all my posts, it just bloody stalls, and nothing ever happens. What's going on? O_O

I released a new version which has much faster code for downloading all the entries, so you might want to try that. It's at the same place: http://james.is.never.wrong.nu/code/hidejournal/

Ok! I tried it and this time something DID happen!

I got the message

"Couldn't use the network connection! You might want to try again later."

I'll try later :P

I still have the same problem - it just stalls. is there a newer version than 0.3.1?

I'vve just tried it on another journal I own, and it worked fine. I'm not sure what the problem is and why it won't run on *this* journal.

I do have 2,887 entries. do you think that is the problem? or perhaps it's some text weirdness somewhere that's causing the script to barf?

If you've tried 3.1, try 3.0.

If you've tried 3.0, you might want to try this tip. If that doesn't work - let me know.

so I finally got it to work, but I ended up having to use 2.99, and even that stopped working at about a third of the way through my journal entries. after some digging and finally figuring out which post was causing it to stall, it turned out to be a weird character in one of my posts. I had already changed my journal over to western unicode, so this one tiny character was for some reason still causing the script to die. after I removed the character, 2.99 worked just fine.

btw, a verbose option would be great for your next version - one that states which post it's working on, not just which post it's successfully changes!
