How to run hidejournal 0.3. (Slanted towards Windows users)

Make sure you're not using tags.

Because HideJournal was written before the introduction of tags to LiveJournal, it will strip tags from entries. You should expect to have to back them up and restore them by hand if you want to use the current release of HideJournal.
Download java

HideJournal requires java. You will need to download and install it ( Read more... )

Hmm, a couple of things I can think of: either you downloaded the source, rather than the release (in which case you'll have extracted a bunch of .java files - is that the case?), or winzip has taken over your .jar extension. In which case, try right-clicking, Open With, then either javaw or java (it depends on what version of java you have installed).

Let me know if that helps.

Hmm, I can't think what would cause that. What version of java do you have?

OK, I can't think of anything that would cause that. I can give you a workaround, though.

Create a new text file in the directory called 'hidejournal.bat'. Open it in notepad, and type in:

java -jar hidejournal-0.3.jar

Then exit notepad and double-click the batch file.

Let me know if that works.

I'm having the exact problem katgolightly had (lo, these many years ago). Tried your fix, but when I double-click the bat file all that happens is ... I get to look at the text file I typed in.

wtf?

had the same problem. the file was saving as a .zip. I renamed it to .jar and now it's working fine.

you've probably fixed this ... but when it goes to download, you should type .jar after the file, and that way it won't download automatically as a zip file. The first time I tried it was a zip file. Second time it was the correct version.
