Children like to give hugs

One of the perks of having subbed long term at one school means that when you show up for work, your former students are pleasantly surprised and decide to give you hugs.

First graders will also give you hugs and tell you they love you/you're their favorite teacher.

Seriously, I love my job. I like being told I am an organized, competent sub, and that I am doing a good job. I like to see the kids reacting appropriately.

Now if only I had a damn license! As someone told me: We care about our children until they cost money. We insist they have the best education yet we refuse to spend more on their education, be it on new supplies or even to have the necessary amount of teachers.

And it's true. And it's been like this for a while it feels. There are plenty of people who would love to be teachers, or even brilliant teachers, who just can't do it because the pay is TOO LOW. If the job doesn't pay your bills, then you change jobs.

And that's what I am worried about. I am 26 years old. I do not want to live with my mother until I either get married or give up on being a teacher because let's face it, I won't make anything decent until I am well into my 60s or 70s. That's no way to live.

So here I am. Do I try to get my license and pursue this career, which I feel like I can do rather well? Or do I give up and start paper pushing my resume towards government agencies, major companies and corporations, and just try to become a secretary/translator/interpreter/teacher of adults?

Because I can't take living with my mom until I get married or find a room mate. I really can't. And I need to start paying bills OFF, not letting them accumulate.

What to do...
