I would want to go here:
http://www.junihitoe.net/index.html You can dress up as a Heian era person. That is SERIOUSLY cool. (Aka I'd be pretending to be Abe no Seimei oh yeah.) But it is crazy expensive! And I don't doubt it. You think today's kimono are expensive? Today's kimono is like...half or the third of the SIZE of a Heian kimono.
Sure, Japanese people were smaller about 1000 years ago, BUT they also wore kimono in LAYERS. As a person who owns a fancy kimono, I can tell you it is two layers plus an under slip like garment.
Back in those days, your outer stuff was easily 5 layers. If it was WARM OUT. So each layer was bigger than the next.
And look at the guys! Look at those ridiculous sleeves! They could hide CHILDREN IN THERE.
So I can understand the price. Especially since a lot of this clothing is made out of high grade, high quality materials. You can't really afford to let people dress up in them for 50 bucks.
Still...1000 bucks to wear a costume for three hours is kind of steep...hence why I will only do this when I am a rich woman. Let's hope they last that long.
