It's funny how, depending on where you stay in Japan, you end up leaving with a new way of speaking Japanese. I speak Japanese with a touch of Kansai (メッチャ おもしろい). It's still mostly standard. But you'll end up leaving with a .... what dialect to they have in Kumano? Well ... I'm sure it won't be standard. 8D
That sucks about your internet. It seems that Japan kinda hates letting gaijin use their webernetz.
Was the Takarazuka cool? Ever since finding out what it is, and using it to make a point in my thesis, I've wanted to see it. It sounds so fascinating. :D
Well, hopefully you'll meet some people in Kumano- find out where they're all living. :3
Really? My host family thought it was amusing when I started picking up on their "accents" and using more kansai-ben. I wonder if the standard is slowly shifting towards a more Kansai sound? -ponders this-
Wow ... those Takarazuka girls are hardcore. o.o It reminds me a whole lot of when Doshisha did Twelfth Night (all in English). Since it was an all girl's college, it was an all girl's cast. So you had a girl, playing a girl, pretending to be a guy, and then just girls playing guys. Really awesome. I got some video of it.
The phrase itself isn't specific to Kansai-ben anymore. However, there is probably a Kansai ACCENT, and that you might use or have when you say certain words. As for the standard shifting, it is definitely including words from the different dialects as they become used more and more universally all over the country due to wide spread use through media.
Ahh ... yeah, there is a difference between dialect and accent, I suppose. At any rate, by the time I get to go back to Japan, I'll probably just be back to an American accent. 8D
