Author's Note: I know, I know, I write to much fic. I'd still love feedback.

It doesn’t take you long to figure out that your new girlfriend and your new best friend have a lot of secrets they’re not telling you. Most of them seem to revolve around her old boyfriend and his old best friend, a guy named Eddie who you seem to be replacing in more ways than three. (His room, his girl, his friend)

At first, it doesn’t bother you. You’re okay with not knowing everything about everyone and you figure their silence on certain topics is just the result of some painful associations that came with losing someone they loved. You know the feeling well so you leave it alone, that is until Greta asks you to grab a sweater from her closet while she answers the phone and you stumble across a whole box of photographs in her closet.

You could understand pictures of Eddie, those wouldn’t surprise you. So when you open the box marked old photos, you’re expecting to see Greta posing with an unfamiliar face, not an all-too familiar one. But there he is, your best friend, beaming up at whoever took the photo, and you think the most surprising thing about it is that it’s a real smile, not a smirk.

Regardless, it stops you in your tracks and makes you throw a backwards glance over your shoulder as you look to the next photo. It’s a picture of her kissing his cheek (a guy she claims to hate) and every one that follows is a similar pose of affection you never expected.

The more you look for it, the more you notice it.

Things you hadn’t picked up on at first, had ignored, or had written off as old rivals being stupid, suddenly make more sense and raise more questions. The mystery of them and their past with Eddie, of their past together, lingers between the three of you.

It’s there every time one of them knows just what kind of remark will hit the hardest with the other. It’s in the silence that falls between them when you enter the room, angry steam still radiating between both of them, and it’s in the way she seems to hate public displays of affection unless he’s the public.

- - - -

It’s too hot outside to do anything so you and Cliff are hanging out in his room, killing time, doing nothing, and the boredom starts to get to you. So you snatch his remote off the floor and flip through the movies on cable. When you find one where the main character is dancing in the rain for seemingly no reason, you stop and smile, remembering your first night in town, and mention that you love doing that.

When he replies that he prefers sprinklers with a smirk, you realize their keeping more secrets then you thought.

Cliff’s eyes seem to narrow when Greta enters the room, his smile seems to falter when you bring her up, and when he talks about her his usual smirk is just a little too wide. They’re all signs you pick up on, process, and keep to yourself because you’ve never been one to jump to conclusions, and you’re not pushing your only two friends away because of some vague suspicions.

Because that’s all they are, vague suspicions. You don’t have any real proof except for pictures you shouldn’t have looked through and conversations you shouldn’t have eased dropped on, not at first.

Then you walk into your girlfriend’s bedroom to find her on top of her desk and your best friend on top of her.

That’s when it becomes more than vague suspicions.
