Hmm, really boring episode for regionals if not for the Kurt/Blaine kiss (FINALLY) and the Quinn/Rachel showdown.
Good on Kurt for finally mentioning how the Warblers is more like Blaine and the Pips. Blaine really takes this too heart and decides to open things up. By just one more person. Uh, baby steps?
Rachel: I'm perfectly capable of accessing my pain. I cry during every solo!
Do we really have to keep being subjected to Rachel/Finn scenes where we are told ever so subtly that Finn Believes In Rachel?
Quinn: They say keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Well, Rachel Berry, you just found yourself a new friend.
You know what would be better than seeing Quinn be Rachel's faux friend? Her *actual* friend. Revolutionary, I know. But having them fight over Finn is good too ::eyeroll:: You know, as stupid as Finn is I understand Finn/Quinn. Rachel, on the otherhand, is just so clearly dating beneath her level. Granted, she's in high school and maybe that's not as obvious to her.
I'm going to pretend that all this fixation on being prom queen (which is the first step to the perfect life) is in hyperdrive because it's the anniversary of giving up her daughter (who is never mentioned. Quinn's pregancy sure, just not the baby). If the Glee writers won't flesh her character out then I will!
Purely shallow note, but what was up with Quinn's hair during her defense of Rachel's original song writing idea? Was she trying to appeal to Rachel's sensibilities through bad hair choices?
It made me so mad and sad (smad?) that Rachel was so damn happy to be supported by Quinn and know that Quinn was just scheming.
Brittany: We used to be close and I really miss my friend.
Santana: All I know is you blew me off to be with Stubbles McCripple Pants. It's fine. It's your loss. 'Cause now I get the chance to write an awesome heterosexual song about Sam that we're going to sing at Regionals.
Brittany: But you told me you were in love with me.
Santana: I honestly don’t know what I was thinking.
Not much Santana, but glad that she pointed out that everyone should have a hand in writing a song for Regionals and for trying to get her pride back after her confession of love for Brittany.
Grouper Mouth, Froggy Lips
I love suckin' on those salamander lips
Wanna put a fish hook in those lips so cherry red
If you tried hard enough you could suck a baby's head
And it lead to a hilariously failtastic song Trouty Mouth. Poor, poor Sam.
I'm telling you my friend my girlfriend's got a big ass heart
When she shops for groceries that heart gets its own damn cart
Puck's song Big Ass Heart had better lyrics, but just barely. Nice beat, though. The plus side is we got dorky, enamoured Puck.
Quinn: First it was after Regionals. Now it’s after Nationals. Do you you want to be in this relationship or not?
Finn: Wow, scary Quinn. Uh, after regionals.
Ugh. Finn. I don't even know what his thought process is. He runs around with Quinn behind Sam's back. But now he's worried about Rachel's feelings? She's fragile right now?!? No, she isn't. She'll survive. Even she's starting to get that. Now if only Finn would join Rachel and get over himself. I fully approve of Scary Quinn coming out for that brand of stupid. They really are a redux of Will and Terri.
Blaine: Kurt, there is a moment when you say to yourself 'Oh, there you are. I've been looking for you forever.’
I don't buy this sudden realization of Blaine's. It's cute and romantic. A little too much, though. But whatever. We got a KISS. FINALLY! And it lasted. And right when Blaine's foolishly talking about practicing again Kurt brings it back to kisses. Yay!
Tell me I should eat my wheaties, you know what
Hell to the no (Hell to the no)
Tell me I'll come down with diabetes
Hell to the no (Hell to the no)
Take me you can leave me but I won't ever change
If you don't like the rules don't play my game
Talk to me to get R-E-S-P-E-C-T, but if I don't, it's all in me
Mercedes' Hell to No was the best one at that point. If only because it led to Sam writing 'Hell to the no' on his notebook and showing it to Santana when she told Mr Schue she had one more verse for Trouty Mouth.
Quinn: Its like Groundhog's Day with you! How many times do you have to make the same mistake to realize its not going to work out?
Rachel: Well, thank you for being honest with me, Quinn and I'm happy for you and Finn, but don’t go and try and rewrite history, okay? It was real. He chose me over you.
Quinn: Do you want to know how this story plays out? I get Finn, you get heartbroken and then Finn and I stay here and start a family. I'll become a successful real estate agent and Finn will take over Kurt’s dad's tire shop. You don’t belong here, Rachel, and you can't hate me for helping to send you on your way.
Rachel: I'm not giving up on Finn. It's not over between -
Quinn: YES, IT IS! It's so frustrating and that’s why you can't write a good song because you live in this little schoolgirl fantasy of life. Rachel, if you keep looking for that happy ending then you are *never* going to get it right.
It wasn't so much a showdown since Rachel was so damn passive while Quinn was getting her bitch on, but Rachel did manage to stand up for herself a little bit. She pointed out how Quinn was rewriting history and that Rachel/Finn wasn't all in Rachel's head.
So Quinn's dreams are clearly on a smaller scale than Rachel's (staying in Lima and married to Finn afterall), but she's just as guilty of trying too hard to get her supposed happy ending.
I'm just glad to get into Quinn's head a little bit and understand how frustrated she is with Rachel because the girl never gives up and deep down she knows after high school Rachel will be great while Quinn's glory days will be behind her. They don't have to be, but if Quinn keeps on the road she's at they will be.
Wow. The Warbler's first song for Regionals sucked. Pink's Raise Your Glass was much better, though, imagining the preppy Warblers as 'nitty gritty' makes me laugh.
Finn: Hey, break a leg.
Rachel: Last time we were here you told me you loved me.
I'm on Rachel's side but there are moments like this - when she gets a friendly, supportive comment by Finn and decides thats the time to bemoan what used to be - that I feel like strangling her myself. Move over, Quinn!
What can you do when you’re good isn’t good enough?
And all that you touch tumbles down?
Cause my best intentions keep making a mess of things,
I just wanna fix it somehow
But how many times will it take?
Oh, how many times will it take for me to get it right?
Just go ahead and hate on me and run your mouth
So everyone can hear
Hit me with the words you got and knock me down
Baby, I don’t care
Keep it up, I’m tunin’ up to fade you out
You wanna be
You wanna be
A loser like me
A loser like me
Get It Right worked so much more for me than A Loser Like Me. It felt more sincere and not like a overproduced theme song for Glee. Although, using the slushie stand and having the cups through out confetti for LLM was genius.
The scene with the judges was almost painful to watch.
Rachel: The way you guys believed in me and took a chance with me - All I ever wanted is to feel special and to feel chosen. I just I wanted to thank you guys so much for giving me that.
Oh wait. I was wrong. The last scene is clearly the best part of the episode. Rachel wins regional MVP for raising above and carrying the team to victory. And she gets a group hug! Awwww! I firmly believe Rachel would thrive with just a little bit of positive reinforcement. She'd be so much less needy, Gleeks. Well, a little less at least.
