"Political correctness is America's newest form of intolerance, and it is especially pernicious because it comes disguised as tolerance. It presents itself as as fairness, yet attempts to restrict and control people's language with strict codes and rigid rules. I'm not sure that's the way to fight discerimination. And yet, don't we have an implicit social contract with others in polite society to not merely say what we are thinking, but to consider the views and feelings of others. I do think "P.C." has gone too far, but I would not want to spend my time surrounded by people with the typical word choices of George Carlin.

And -- what should one "whip out at work"? (evil arched eye brow and suggestive grin)

You've hit it square on the head with the need for both consideration AND saying what we are thinking. The problem comes when PC starts strangling communication as opposed to as you say consdering the views of others. Carlin fill the role of balancing the extremes of PC. The answer (as almost always IMHO) is in the middle.

Have you seen my classmates? I'm whipping out the PC at work :-))
