If I took over the world

"The world is a mess, and I just... need to rule it." -Dr. Horrible

I have been ranting for a while on my various ideas for this world.  All through summer camp I told people how I would run things, If I ever took over the planet. Right now, I am in a very political mood. The Republican party has enraged me once again.(1 ( Read more... )

Being a policy advocate now, I'm being trained to pick up the manifest and latent goals of any policy proposed. Allow me to critique:

1. It takes a good long time to build nuclear power plants. Of course this doesn't mean that we shouldn't build them, however it's not an immediate solution, which many people are looking for.

2. Books will be pricey and instantly out of date. Any school making the conversion would instantly have to replace ALL of its books. Did I mention they wanted me to pay $760 for 10 books for my school year this year? It's not much cheaper for schools either, assuming you don't want McDonalds logos all over them or something.

3. Programs of this nature will disproportionately affect the lower class and minorities (institutional discrimination), generally because of costs involved. You've gotta take a class to give birth - who's paying for the class? The books? Then of course there's the time cost, and many lower class Americans work multiple jobs - when will they go? This would essentially halt breeding for many classes of Americans. In addition you'll have to create a whole new department, and infrastructure, just to handle the oversight, prosecution, etc... Not to mention the religious will really not like the idea of mandatory abortions.

Oh yeah, and the population of our country is dropping, not growing. Unless you count illegal immigrants that is.

4. As you said it's a work in progress, I'll just comment on one part of this. The biggest issue I'd see would be the time thing. The American school system is set up to line up with the standard 9-5 job so that parents don't have to worry about getting kids to school. Think about it, it's hard enough to get kids off to school and get them home in one piece - now all of a sudden they could be bussed around 2-3 times a day? Are you kidding me?

Good thoughts though.
