i've waited tables for a total of 6 years and i don't at all agree with your statements.

first of all, a bad tipper is a bad tipper and that has nothing to do with where they come from or what color they are or what they do for work.

i am the pickiest person ever when it comes to tipping people, since i've waited tables for so long.

you are working for tips. if you leave my dishes on the table when i'm obviously done with them, your tip will be less. if you don't offer me a drink right away, no matter how busy you are, your tip will be less. if you don't make sure you refill that drink, your tip will be less. if something is wrong with my food and you act like an asshole when i tell you, your tip will be less. if you flirt with my boyfriend in front of me your tip will be less. if you pay more attention to one person at the table then the rest, your tip will be less. etc etc etc

too often waitstaff just assumes they deserve a good tip even though they aren't doing shit to earn it. you KNOW you're only going to be paid 2.85 an hour, so you better work your ass off to earn that 15 or 20 %.

on the other hand though, if i have a good waiter, i tend to seriously overtip. it's all about how you do your job. not about sterotypes. if you go into the situation thinking the table is going to be a shitty one based on the reasons you listed above, you're going to do less of a job than if you just did your job with out thinking, shit, that black guy isnt' going to tip me well and he's going to be loud while doing so

oh no, i'm a great waitress.. but have you ever worked in an environment such as the one I do? It's a lot different than a normal restaurant.

I clean plates right away, I bring refills when the cup is half empty, I return to check if their food is ok within 2 minutes of them getting it, i speak to everyone at the table.. it's a different job.. I'm not just a waitress, I have to socialize, and some people just don't care.

I said in everything earlier, There are exceptions.. but in my experience, as good as you treat some people, they still tip like shit.

And I only make $2.13 an hour.

I wasn't going to rant back.. but it's a different than just regular serving. That was my opinion, and I heard yours, I'm sticking to mine, and you can have yours.. but that's how it is where I work. Hell, sometimes you'll get the people who stuff 2 dollars in your hand off a $70 bill, and close your hand around it and say.. "this is for you.. thank you so much, you were a pleasure" and you open your hand and well.. there you go.

So yeah, that was my opinion.. and i like my job.. and like any job, it has it's assholes. I'm done.
