"And is she as pretty as we've all heard? Your own pretty... well, what's the word?"

Oh life. Death has come and gone (I took my SAT yesterday. XD;;) and a small, miniature death is imminent (OMG FLUTE RECITAL IN LIKE... AN HOUR. ~_~) EDIT: Okay, so this took considerably longer than an hour. But oh well. So what to do?

SHARE MUSIC.

I have become very, very bored with my music recently. So I figured I would just upload stuff and see if anyone would upload stuff in return.
But as I went through my stuff to see if I had anything worth uploading, I found the soundtrack to one of my favorite musicals ever! So in lieu of uploading random songs I probably downloaded from my flist, I figured I would just post that. Because musicals rock. Hardcore. XD

Oh Once On This Island, how to describe you? It's pretty much The Little Mermaid, but without mermaids, and without Disney's cute happy ending.

In short: You have a peasant named Ti Moune. And a noble (or Grandhommes, as this musical is set in the Caribbean, and therefore there are many references to the French colonization. XD) named Daniel. Daniel gets in a car crash. Ti Moune saves him by promising her soul to the God of Death (Papa Ge) so that he wouldn't kill Daniel. It's vaguely cute. Ish. They fall in love. All is well on The Island.

'Cept it turns out that, uh, Daniel's engaged (to a woman named Andrea who is pretty much the most amusing woman ever. EVER. She's evil, but also probably the most intelligent character. <333). So, Ti Moune is understandably upset by this.

And just to make things worse, Papa Ge comes back and is like, "So, remember that soul you promised me? Well, I want it. Now, plzkthnx." And Ti Moune is like "NOOO! I DON'T WANT TO DIE FOR DANIEL ANYMORE!"

And Papa Ge laughs and says, "Well, take my sharp, shiny knife and kill him, and I won't kill you."

But because this is a vaguely moralistic story, Ti Moune can't bring herself to kill Daniel. Daniel does, however, see her brandishing the knife and banishes her back to the poor peasant side of The Island. Ti Moune is sad and languishes, then dies.

And is... um... turned into a tree. The end.

It's a very sad musical. But with very, very good music. Also, aside from the singing, there's not a whole lot of dialogue going on, so you can just listen straight through and know what's going on without any "wait... wtf just happened?" Except the end. But even if you see the musical, there is no explanation for the end. >P

01 We Dance
Opening song. Stuff is introduced.

02 One Small Girl
Hello Ti Moune.

03 Waiting for Life
Obligatory "I wish my life were different" song. I <3 it, though.

04 And the Gods Heard Her Prayer/Rain
...Eh. I don't really listen to this song much. Plot is extrapolated.

05 Pray
OH NO. DANIEL IS GOING TO DIE.

06 Forever Yours
It's like a love song. Only, the God of Death shows up half way through to make everyone miserable.

07 The Sad Tale of The Beauxhommes
Okay, so this really has very little to do with the actual plot of the musical, but it's some backstory for Daniel's family, and I just like the song.

08 Ti Moune
After Ti Moune saved Daniel's life, he was taken back to the rich side of The Island, and back to his family. This is Ti Moune asking her parents if she can RUIN HER LIFE go after Daniel, because they are DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER.

09 Mama Will Provide
The goddess of the Earth, Asaka, tells Ti Moune that she will help her get to the Grandhommes side of The Island.

10 Some Say
How Ti Moune got from peasant-land to rich-land. A happy, fun song. XD

11 The Human Heart
Not going to lie, I never listen to this song. Ever.

12 Pray (Reprise)
A reprise of "Pray." It makes me oddly happy, and there is foreshadowing.

13 Some Girls
Daniel reflects on his feelings towards Ti Moune. Sad, and oddly touching. Because Daniel really loves Ti Moune. He's just not a strong enough person to defy the life set down for him by his parents, which is a shame.

14 The Ball
I don't care if you have no interest in this musical whatsoever. DOWNLOAD THIS SONG. It has Andrea. And she is pretty much amazing. And she makes thinly veiled references and I LOVE HER SOSO MUCH.

15 Ti Moune's Dance
An instrumental piece. In the show, Ti Moune dances during this. Like you couldn't have guessed that.

16 When We Are Wed
Oh look, it's Andrea again. Only this time, she's realized that Daniel has UTTERLY FAILED to tell his new girlfriend that he is, in fact, ENGAGED. T__T

17 Forever Yours (Reprise)
...I don't really listen to this song either. Sorry guys.

18 A Part of Us
OH NO. TI MOUNE IS DEAD. But never fear. She will come back~ as a tree. WTF???

19 Why We Tell the Story
The big finale. It's oddly upbeat and quite touching, and overall a very good song.

Well, that's it.
The best part of the whole thing? That because of the actors' accents, the name Daniel pretty much *always* ends up sounding like "Danielle." XD

a tree!, wtf?, ooti
