Miki’s trembling hands fumbled with the lock connecting his bike to the rack. His exposed fingers were cold and his mind was crowded with thoughts of his day. He’s cheeks were tinted pink with emotion and eyes lined with water, showing that he was upset. He yanked at the lock, shaking it, all the while knowing that doing that wouldn’t help free his bike. Holding his hand still, Miki took a deep breath calming himself.
Just one day ago, Miki had set himself free from a relationship he had somehow ended up in. He showed be happy and free, and he was all day yesterday. He had come to school with the same energy he had left with, a smile on his face and optimism soaked in his mood. He didn’t hear anything the other students were saying in the morning as he locked up his bike and heading happily into the school building. He didn’t notice anything strange as he changed into his school slippers at the cubbies.
He headed down the hallways, greeting his sempai’s and sensei’s that he came across on the way to his homeroom. It was in his homeroom that he became aware of the words of the other students. He wasn’t late to class today, but he had arrived in time to hear the first bell, which also meant plenty of kids were already there. He walked into his homeroom (HMF - Mizoguchi-sensei [Health] - Miyavi (rep), Amanda, Matthew, Miki, Yu Ling, Yuki), still in a good mood, only to be confronted by a group of boy’s, questioning Miki on his sexuality. He could hear a couple of the other students giggling as they watched from their seats. Miki wasn’t sure how to respond. Yu Ling was in his homeroom, so if he denied the accusations, she would know he was lying and become upset. He stuttered that he didn’t know what they were getting at, and went to take his seat, ignoring what else they had to say. His mood already damaged, Miki was tortured the rest of the period by Mizoguchi’s constant jeering at homosexuals, which was backed by the laughter of the boys from earlier. Miki couldn’t get out of class fast enough.
During the passing period, Miki was fully aware of the words of his peers as the rumor flew through the school. Each class was basically the same with students making jokes and jesters. Ichiro was in Miki’s fifth hour, but Ichiro had taken this time to do work on the student council ((ooc- approved by Ichiro’s typist), leaving Miki to be questioned on why his “love” wasn’t in class. Lunch was next and Miki spent that time hanging out in the student council office, not even bothering to buy lunch first. He left several minutes early to get to his next class before the rest of the students filled the hall.
By the time the last class had ended, the rumor was well developed. Miki couldn’t believe how much negative attention he was getting and couldn’t help but wonder if Akao and Yamamoto had some help in giving the rumor its notoriety. Miki thought regrettably how other students that had fallen into similar messes must have felt, such as Shimada when the Naka Baka’s pointing finger came after him. What if Miki really did prefer boys? What was so wrong with that, he thought angrily. It wouldn’t be like his decisions would be affecting anyone else but himself. Why would it be such a big deal? Miki trudged to tennis practice, where at last he would get some sort of refuge. Practice was tough and not much talk could be managed, so practice was peaceful.
Miki was on his way home now, where he would be completely sheltered from the taunts of his peers. The only thing that was stopping him was this damned lock. He was sure that the students would become bored of it by the end of the week and would stop. He chances of finding a girl that he could actually like and date would be shot, but at least he would be left alone. Having calmed himself, Miki went to try the lock again and was this time successful at releasing it.
