Semester Beginning

Well, it's the start of a whole new school year, and as usual I'm frantic. This one is more frantic than some simply due to the fact that I have a whole slew of real-world responsibilities on top of my academic career, but less so than others in that I know a lot more about pacing myself these days. I'm no longer one of the leaders in MSU, which takes a lot of burdens off me, and my job actually pays pretty well, which means I'm not scrambling for cash as much anymore.

My classes this semester are Survey of English Literature I, Introduction to Linguistics, and Japanese I. I'm daunted by my incredibly boring reading assignments in Lit, fascinated by my energetic and bubbly teacher in Linguistics, and scared shitless by the amount of new things I have to learn in Japanese. (By the way: I am currently the master of 20 whole hiragana. Bully. Only like 30 more to learn, plus katakana and kanji.)

I have writing prospects again! After the release of Ronin, I was so relieved that I let everything slide for a few months, but I've put my hat back in the ring. I'm currently pitching some ideas for FantasyCraft articles to Crafty Games, and I'm working on a Savage Worlds setting thing that I think has a lot of potential but is currently just for my own professional amusement. I'm really interested in working for Crafty; they make good games, even if their work is slightly crunchier than my usual fare. Getting published in Signs and Portents would be a huge booster for my career too, so wish me luck. As well, I'm looking forward to Paizo reopening the open calls for Pathfinder Society sometime in the next month or two; I've got some very solid ideas for adventures that I think have a good shot of netting me a contract with them.

Chisa and I had a long talk earlier tonight about my future prospects; I brought it up, and she agreed with me: I'm going to apply for summer school this summer, and at the end of the summer I'm probably going to be leaving my cushy, sweet-ass job to focus on school full-time. If I take two classes over the summer term, I'll have less than 30 hours necessary to finish up my Bachelor's. I can't do that in one year while I'm working, but I can manage it if I quit my job and go to school full-time. We'll be poorer than we've gotten used to being for a year, but we should be able to cover most of our losses with my grants and loans. Armed with my shiny new BA in English, I'll have plenty of time to mourn my prospects in the current economy before pressing on to graduate school. XD

Anyway, my shift is almost over, so I need to start cleaning up my office space. Then I get to hit the bank before I go home, walk back to the apartment, grab a quick bite of breakfast, hopefully get to bed before 8am, sleep until about 10:30am, get up, go to class, and come home around 4pm. Then I might get an hour of nap before we head out to celebrate Chi's brother's birthday. I'm just glad I'm off work tonight. x_x
