Disturbed

I just saw Session 9, which happens to be also one of onnawufei's movies that she's seen I think (its one of her icons)? I am forever scarred. I LOVE the movie, and its because of that that I love movies. I feel desensitized watching certain films that have too much CG and none of the creepy suspense found in old movies of yore. Shades of "Rosemary's Baby" and "Jacob's Ladder" line Session 9, and its an incredibly well made movie just because it retains the feel of both these aforementioned movies. I'm a creepy person... on paper and online, but you'll realize that my desires are... carnal... at best ;).

To tide myself, I'm watching "8 mile." I've never watched the movie althroughout, but I've seen enough of it that makes me actually have a very different approach to the whole climactic event at the end of the movie... yknow, with the rap battle that happens in the end?

Hear me out. And you can skip this if you hate the wire fighting that happens in kung fu movies, like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or "Hero."

In movies like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or "Hero," the fight scenes become an extension of the spirits of the fighters involved. Spirits you ask? Well, maybe its a vague kindof way to describe it, but I'd like to describe it as their "will to express their beliefs." In most Chinese movies, the fighters tend to imbue certain virtues and values and such... and which one tends to be greater, and depending on how the director expresses each virtue or value, it takes upon a very unique visually personified expression. There's a certain strength that is portrayed here visually, but you can usually tell that a good movie has a good, strong character if you feel like you can put an imaginary aura around them and they won't feel cheesy... but I ramble :)

Likewise, in "8 mile," everytime I watch the rap battles, I felt like it mimicked some sort of the ideology behind some of the kung fu movies of yore. Simplified, one can view the battle as the battle between good versus evil. Ultimately however, it is really more of a battle of ideologies... personified, and made audible... by the words the "fighters" carefully select to "attack" their opponent.

In essence, then, that I think "8 mile" is really a modern take on kung fu films of yore. Sounds like B.S. doesn't it? Yea, that's what you get for being awake at 2:20 a.m.

I dyed my hair today. Also had a weird haircut.

I am anxious to move to SB. I will be sleeping early tomorrow, since my parents and I are waking up early at 6:45am to drive over to Santa Barbara so we can get there at 9:00am. Yea, I know. Talk about intent. Seems like they're more stoked about the move than I am.
