Mornings...
So, had to get up early (well, for me, anyways) to take my grandma into MD Imaging for a CT scan this morning. She's been having one or two medical problems recently...significant enough to investigate further, but nothing super-serious as of yet. It made me reflect a bit on the phases of my relationship with her. For a while, she was a GREAT grandma...laughing, a bit goofy, fun-loving, sensitive, open...then, bit by bit, she grew more shrill, angry, controlling, which eroded much of the affection I felt for her...and now, she's getting into late-stage Alzheimer's, and there's really not much of her to interact with her anymore. Hmm...maybe I should try a bit harder to know her, appreciate her, while she's still around. It just struck me today how one person can have so many identities relative to the people around them, depending on their stage of life, circumstances, or even all at the same time.
In other news, got to go to Marketfest and hang out with Nate, Ashley, and Rissie. Unfortunately, the drum circle shut down a bit earlier than we expected, so we went to dutch bros. and hung out with a few familiar faces, followed by regression to the Redding Mall and extended political discussions. Good times, that. Think I'll try to make some potato salad today...not the mayo-mustard shit from safeway, but honest-to-god homemade salad that tastes like unicorn giggles. But first, I think I'm going to take a mid-morning nap...
