We are extremely proud of the diversity of our ticket, both for constitutional office and on the local level up and down the state. For instance, we have an unprecedented number of Asian Pacific Islander Americans running for office, as well as the prospect of increasing our Legislative Black Caucus from six to nine members.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, Republicans are offering a statewide ticket comprised of conservative white males. A state as diverse as California deserves better representation than that, don’t you think?
With our strong statewide Democratic ticket leading the way and a grassroots organization second to none, we will work tirelessly to engage communities in all 58 counties. Our message will be clear: after three years of Schwarzenegger's broken promises and his unwillingness to stand up to Bush on critical issues that matter most to Californians, it's time for new and effective leadership that will restore honesty and integrity to government and put an end to the Republican culture of corruption in Congress.
Our Democratic team, along with our partners in labor, the environmental community and the youth movement, will fight for working people on the issues most important to Californians: quality education for all; affordable and accessible health care; energy independence; a balanced budget; retirement security; and improving the day-to-day lives of all Californians by improving our infrastructure.
Democrats are united in securing a brighter tomorrow, a tomorrow with bigger dreams, hope for the future and a solid foundation of opportunity for every Californian. Together, we will show how Democrats will make California great again.
And finally, I want to thank so many of you for wishing me well in my recovery from colon cancer surgery. I now join the thousands of cancer survivors who appreciate family and friends for their support and prayers! I hope to see many of you in the near future as we work toward a state and national Democratic victory!
Sincerely,
Senator Art Torres (Ret.)
Chairman, California Democratic Party
