haha, i don't particularly like the libertarian party at present. but, do you mean to say that you can't be friends with an economic conservative? i'm assuming you have no qualms about me being a social liberal.
to be fair, i don't even think i'm all that conservative. i do believe in a free market (within reason) and exercising economic restraint. if the government has to intervene in the economy (which as i understand, is not a viewpoint shared by most libertarians), i prefer that they do it through interest rate adjustments rather than tax cuts or government spending. i prefer to shop locally owned and to be environmentally, socially, politically conscious in my consumption choices. despite that, i do see the value in larger corporations (like Whole Foods, Google, Apple, Toyota, Target, etc...) and believe that you can balance profit-seeking incentives with social responsibility. i believe in government funding for schools, the arts, etc... but do not believe that subsidies should be blindly awarded simply to garner the vote of a political constituency.
if i were 59% economically permissive, i imagine my result would be "democrat". would it matter then? i don't mean to belittle your comment, neesha. i just anticipate some questions about this, so i thought i should state my reasoning now. we cool?
oh, dear, my comment was mostly a joke. i know that you aren't really a libertarian and i even agree with some of the statements you just made. i'm just very surprised you took the time to write all that out. :)
as to the length of my comment, i just figured that some people would wonder, so i thought i'd pre-empt that and put my thoughts out there. you just happened to be the lucky first comment. :)
I took it earlier and here are my results. I disagree, because I don't think I'm a socialist. I think I'm a Democrat with Socialist tendencies. I also don't find the survey's questions to be particularly well-crafted and the fact that it doesn't give you a choice that was between "agree" and "disagree" was bothersome to me.
You are a Social Liberal (80% permissive) and an... Economic Liberal (8% permissive) You are best described as a: Socialist
You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.
I can see you bordering on the economic conservative side. Of course I'm the other extreme when it comes to that (I really do believe in most socialist policies), but hell, you *were* a business and finance major, right? And they say, you're only liberal until you get rich.
"And they say, you're only liberal until you get rich." -- ouch. haha, actually, i'm not really offended. but, i do disagree with your statement. that would seem to imply that if you were to win the lottery and become rich, that you would cease to believe in socialism as you do now. i don't believe that would happen. i think that you fundamentally believe that the disadvantaged should be helped by the government because you are very compassionate and have a strong personal sense of justice. i don't think that rich or poor, this would change. this is not to say that i don't believe in an equitable society; i just disagree about the mechanism for achieving that equality. suum cuique.
I was not implying that you were rich and therefore not a liberal - saying that I'm a socialist now but shit, when I'm making a lot more money will I have the same views as I do now that I'm poor and frustrated with the services available for poor people (especially children)? I would hope so, but maybe...
