Welcome to my journal. Glad you've come. Have a chair, sit down, enjoy the scenery. I've tried not to be too difficult in my requests, but it's hard to tell sometimes.
I'm very easy to write for, I promise. I like canon and backstory/future fic (especially the weird obscure bits, as you can tell by my requests), snark and witty banter, capers and proper adventures and characterization pieces. Feel free to take advantage of this.
Beta-readers are your friends - please do check for grammar, spelling and at least a vague attempt at historical accuracy.
I'd rather not have anything above PG-13 (horror or smut)- though I don't mind shipping (het/femslash/slash are all fine, incestuous pairings not so much). I'm not really in this for the smut and I'd prefer that all of the characters stayed alive. When in doubt, keep your fic about the same level as the source material and you'll be fine.
Find Me In Paris (TV)
Any Characters
A time-travelling ballerina from 1905 lands in the present day and attends classes in the modern Opéra de Paris, resulting in a wild combo of ballet, hip-hop/street dancing, and time travel hijinks...what's not to love.
I'm not really interested in the romantic machinations, beyond mildly shipping Lena/Thea when they find themselves bonding over 1905 pastimes. I'm much more interested in the ballet and time travel drama of it all.
This show is available on Hulu and I'm sort of addicted. Time travel! Ballet!! Teen drama!!! These things are my catnip. This is a Hulu "Original", a joint production with several European companies, filmed on location in Paris (and makes great use of this fact). There are two seasons of half-hour episodes so far.
Juniper Gentian and Rosemary - Pamela Dean
People always know The Secret Country Trilogy or Tam Lin better, but there's a special place in my heart for this book.
I'd love to see a story set during canon, from an outside perspective (The Giant Ants, Junie & Sarah, Rosie and her Girl Scout troop) while Gentian was under Dominic's influence. Alternately Gentian rebuilding her life would also be good. If you prefer backstory, more about the Giant Ants' friendship would be welcome.
A rather spooky story about a teenage astronomer, her friends and the mysterious boy next door.
I love the slow build-up and the rather blurred feel when they start building the time machine, but always wished that we'd seen more of the aftermath. How does Gentian move on after losing touch with everything? But I'd also be happy with more about the Giant Ants, or any of the other prompts I gave above. I've almost given up hope for a sequel so anything would be lovely.
If you're interested in picking this up, it's available used or as an ebook.
The Haunting - Margaret Mahy
An old favorite of mine. My favorite character is Troy, but feel free to feature any of the nominated characters in any permutation. Or any of the un-nominated characters for that matter.
Some ideas might be:
Post canon, Troy getting used to not having to hide what she is.
An excerpt from Tabitha's book.
Pre-canon, when Claire joined the family.
Post-canon, when Emma is a little older.
A short somewhat spooky middle grade novel about family secrets, magic, and being who you're meant to be.
There are so many possibilities here. About the only thing I'm not interested in is fic set when Cole was young. I am more interested in "present day" and the kids in the story/his interactions with them, than in the unpleasant Scholar backstory
If you're picking this up, its both in print and available as an ebook.
Wizards and Warriors (TV)
There isn't a character in this show that I didn't like and the gold lamé and bad special effects were part of the charm. An ensemble story would be lovely. I've spent the last 20 or so years wishing that there were more than 8 episodes, so write me a story that should have been an episode and I will be happy.
As far as shipping goes, I loved the Geoffrey/Ariel storyline and the Dirk/Bethel one (even though I'm sure Bethel was using Dirk for her own purposes). I would not object to a Erik/Marco story, even.
I'm of the semi-firm belief that this takes place in the same universe as Galavant if you're looking for a crossover idea.
A way-over-the-top medieval fantasy adventure, with Jeff Conaway (Babylon 5), Duncan Regehr (ST: DS9), and Julia Duffy (Newhart). There is less singing and dancing than Galavant (almost none) but more gold lamé. They're about even on the melodrama.
I'm more in this for the adventure/world building/gold lamé than the romance, but don't let that stop you if you have a great idea. And if I'm mentioning gold lamé a lot, that's because there was a lot of it. Also leather and flowing white pirate shirts.
There's a complete series box set available used. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be streaming anywhere.
