My Dear Fic Corner Scribbler Letter

Jul 30, 2013 19:35

Apologies for this being so late. It got forgotten in the rush to get the fic exchange rolling.

My Dear, Adored Fic Corner Scribbler,

Welcome to my journal. Glad you've come. Have a chair, sit down, enjoy the scenery. I've tried not to be too difficult in my requests, but it's hard to tell sometimes.

I'm very easy to write for, I promise. I like canon and backstory (especially the weird obscure bits, as you can tell by my requests), snark and witty banter (as you might be able to tell from my choice of characters), capers and proper adventures and characterization pieces. I'd rather not have anything above PG-13 (horror or smut)- though I don't mind shipping (het/femslash/slash are all fine, incestuous pairings, not so much), I'm not really in this for the smut and I'd prefer that all of the characters stayed alive. As you may guess by my choice of fandoms and characters, I am fond of cheesy plots, snark and witty banter (see above) and amazing adventures. Feel free to take advantage of this.

Beta-readers are your friends - please do check for grammar, spelling and scientific accuracy (as far as you can).

Morgan Swift - Martine Lesley
General Audiences, Teen And Up Audiences
Morgan Swift, Sam (Morgan Swift), Sally Jackson (Morgan Swift), Jenny Wu (Morgan Swift)
Summary

Ah, the mysterious Sam. I think it's time Jenny and Sally met him (or her, I'm not picky). Awesome adventures. Crossovers welcome but not required.

These seem to be easily available used on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. This was a very short series from the 80s - 3 books by Martine Lesley, one by Susan Saunders (which I tend to ignore) and two "Find Your Fate" (choose your own adventures) type books. Morgan Swift was an impossibly awesome high school teacher/adventurer with a mysterious past (think female Indiana Jones), Sally and Jenny were her two students who got involved in adventures with her and Sam was mentioned about once a book - a mysterious romance/possible tragedy in Morgan's past. Anyway, adventure, possible romance, mysterious Sam - my wants are simple.

Over the Hills to Fabylon - Nicholas Stuart Gray
General Audiences

Any characters means any characters. Just tell me a new Fabylon story.

A very hard to find book but if you have it you know how magical it is. Fabylon's king has the power to move his castle to the other side of the mountain when he clenches his fists (and he's a very tense man). His three children are: Rosetta who likes to dress up as a normal girl (but she's a bit clueless about what normal girls do), Conrad who is determined that when he inherits the kingdom he wont be quite as quick to whisk the castle away as his father is, and Alaric who's as feckless as Conrad is controlled. It's all very lovely and fairy-tale-esque.

Wynd Family - Stephen Krensky
General Audiences
Any Character

I'd love to see the Wynds meet another magical family. Crossovers welcome or just expand on the magic in their world.

Another out of print series. Alison, Edward, Jamie, Jennifer and Perry are the kids in a family with hereditary magical powers. The books are light magical adventures/mysteries in which the kids have to band together to save the day. I just love the entire family so I'd love to see either an ensemble adventure or focus on any member or members of the family.

The Secret Country series - Pamela Dean
General Audiences
Laura Carroll, Fence (Secret Country)

Post Whim of the Dragon. How is everyone adjusting to the Hidden Land? Or possibly a story in which they figure out another way to get back to Australia or get Ruth's parents to her wedding. I'll be happy with any other characters as long as Laura and Fence are in there.

I bought this series as it first came out and I spent many years waiting for Whim of the Dragon to come out (not knowing, in those days before internet, if it ever would). In lieu of the promised sequel, I'd love to see what happened after Laura, Ted & their parents and Ruth returned to the Hidden Land. You've got a few suggested plots above. Laura is my favorite of the five kids and Fence my favorite of the Hidden Land characters.
