“Do you mind if I sit with you? Everywhere else is full.”

Rose looked up from her book to see a blonde haired boy standing in the door way of their compartment. She recognized him as the boy her father had told her to stay away from on the platform.

“Malfoy isn't it?”

He sort of shrugged and nodded. “Yeah, Scorpius Malfoy.”

If her mother's stories were anything to go by, her father tended to overreact. The boy didn't seem to give off any negative vibes. He was just as new as her, and looking for somewhere to sit. Thinking little of it now, she gestured to the bench across from her with a smile.

“Sure, my name's Rose by the way. Rose Weasley.”

She held out her hand, and he shook it with a smile, taking the seat across from her. They spent the rest of the train ride talking, only stopping when the candy trolley came by, each buying more than they probably should have. He happily traded her his Morgana chocolate frog card for one of her Uncle Harry when she groaned upon unwrapping it.

A few of her cousins dropped in, and introductions were made. James and Victoire eyed Scorpius warily, but Rose shrugged them off. She was having fun, and here, not even at Hogwarts yet, and she'd made a new friend.

Sod what her father thought.

She and Scorpius stuck together when they arrived in Hogsmeade, and ended up together in one of the row boats toward the castle. Like all the other first years, they looked on in awe at the castle, though both had seen it from a distance from traveling to Hogsmeade on occasion with their parents. Once inside, it wasn't long before the Sorting began. Rose's Uncle Neville, Professor Longbottom to everyone else, as Deputy Headmaster, told them about the four houses, and encouraged them to embrace whichever they were sorted into.

Rose's cousin Albus managed to push through the crowd, and Rose quickly introduced him to Scorpius as the others before them were sorted. The two shook hands, smiles on their faces. Rose hoped Uncle Harry wouldn't act like her father if he found out.

“Malfoy, Scorpius!”

Rose held up her hands, fingers crossed and smiled at her friend as he walked up to the front. They had talked about houses on the train. Apparently, both his parents had been Slytherins, which would explain some of her father's enmity for the blonde family. He wanted his parents to be proud of him, but he knew the Hat would put him where he belonged. The same sentiment Rose held actually. Being the eldest daughter of two-thirds of the famous Golden Trio put a certain amount of weight on her shoulders. Most the family was betting on Gryffindor, which she wouldn't really mind seeing as she would be with her family, but the Hat was never wrong.

The hat sat on Scorpius's head for quite awhile before yelling out Slytherin. Rose cheered for him, knowing it was where he wanted to be, and she caught the thumbs up he sent her way. She now stood with Albus, waiting patiently.

Albus went to Slytherin, and slid in next Scorpius at the table, giving him a high five, and the pair smiled Rose's way. She cheered, but the rest of the Great Hall seemed a little awed by the fact that Harry Potter's son was a Slytherin.

Soon enough, it was Rose's turn. She eyed the Slytherin table where both Scorpius and Albus gave her thumbs up. As the hat slipped onto her head, she saw Scorpius mouth “good luck.”

She was startled slightly when the hat began speaking to her.

“Another Weasley? Quite a few of you now it seems. Oh, and your Ms. Granger's daughter too though...that certainly changes things a bit. Interesting, very interesting...a wonderful mind, great potential there. A good heart, you would do well in Gryffindor, like many of the others in your family...but there's something else...I think...yes. It's settled.”

Scorpius and Albus stood up and cheered for her when the hat called out Ravenclaw. Her family stood up at the Gryffindor table as well and clapped. She recognized the Scamander twins waving her over as she headed toward the Ravenclaw table, and she slid in next to them.

Rose looked over at the Slytherin table to see Scorpius still clapping for her, mouthing “I called it.”

The next morning they got their schedules. First class of the day was Herbology with Gryffindor, and then the rest of the afternoon Ravenclaw first years were with Slytherin. She waved Albus over when she saw him walk in and showed him. He rushed off, saying he needed to grab something quick to eat before Potions, and that he and Scorpius would see her later.

Yeah, it was going to be a great first day.
