The noise of the train and the screeching children was doing nothing to quell Astoria's headache. In fact, it was making it positively worse, but, as always, she placed a smile on her face for her husband and son.
After all, it was Scorpius's first day at Hogwarts, and she didn't want to ruin it for him by looking miserable. That wouldn't be a happy to memory to have. He was very excitable, more so than usual, and looked the spitting image of how his father did at his age.
She turned her head to look at Draco, who was smiling proudly down at his son, and telling him that it didn't matter what house he was in as long as he paid attention in lessons and got good marks. Indeed, the war had changed Draco for the better, and she noticed him exchange a friendly nod with the Potter and Weasley clan across the other side of the Platform.
"Who are they?" asked Scorpius, upon seeing his mother and father glancing over at them. "Oh! Is that Harry Potter?"
Astoria saw Draco clench his teeth together as he said, "Yes, it is. Now, are you sure you've got everything?"
"Yes, father!" said Scorpius irritatedly, seemingly unable to take his eyes away from the Potters. "What's he doing here, mum?"
"The same as us, dear," Astoria said quickly, hoping to change the subject. "Anyway, never mind him. Give your mother a hug and a kiss."
Scorpius groaned and rolled his eyes, like every eleven year old did in front of his peers; Astoria knew not to take it to heart. "Oh, mum!"
"I won't see you until Christmas," she said sternly, bending down and placing her arms around his neck. "You be good, don't you go getting into any trouble, now." As she pulled away she placed a small kiss on his cheek, which he promptly wiped off with his sleeve.
"Look, everyone's getting on the train!" cried Scorpius, in an attempt to stop his father from chastising him for his rudeness. It worked, as Draco sighed and grabbed the trunk, heading towards the train.
Astoria followed them and watched as Draco placed the trunk onto the train and shook hands with Scorpius. She gave her son one last smile before he scampered off, presumably to find Crabbe, Goyle and Pansy.
They stood and waited until all the pupils were on and the Hogwarts Express began to move, waving briefly just in case Scorpius was watching them. They couldn't see him, but it was possible he could see them, and Astoria didn't want him to feel ignored.
"He's gone then," Draco sighed once the train had left, taking her hand and walking back towards Kings Cross. "Thought we'd never get rid of him."
"Oi!" Astoria said playfully, knowing he was joking.
"Well, with Scorpius around," said Draco quietly, leaning in to whisper into her ear, "it made it harder to have a little fun."
Astoria laughed. She would miss Scorpius with all her heart, but she knew that Draco would certainly keep her occupied until Christmas. As they walked back to Kings Cross, she realised just how lucky she was to such a wonderful family.
