Challenge #55: Wizards Around the World

Upon joining the Malfoy family for the second half of Winter Break, Albus Severus Potter was thrilled to once again be whisked away to a foreign country. This time they traveled to France, mainly Paris. Albus and his best friend spent the first couple of days exploring Wizarding Paris with Mrs. Malfoy. Mr. Malfoy had some business to take care of before they ventured into Muggle Paris together.
Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy decided that Paris was his favorite city in the world after only three days there. There was something about the sights, sounds, and smells that thrilled the twelve year old. He never wanted to leave the city.
“Where would you like to go today, boys?” Scorpius’s father asked.
Scorpius gestured and Albus smiled. “Arc De Triumph.” Scorpius gestured again and Albus translated. “Eiffel Tower.” The blond continued to gesture. “The Louvre. Notre Dame. The Paris Opera House.”
Mr. Malfoy chuckled, “So basically you want to go everywhere?” Both boys nodded enthusiastically. “Alright. I’ll decide.”
The Malfoy family and Albus made their way out of the Wizarding hotel they were staying in and down the street to where they could get a cab. Scorpius’s father hailed a cab and they all climbed in. The older blond told the driver something in prefect French and they started moving.
The driver took them on a tour of the city, pointing out all the important buildings as they went. Albus and Scorpius “ooh”ed and “ahh”ed excitedly as they passed each one. As they neared the end of their tour Scorpius caught Albus’s attention and made some quick hand motions. “Mr. Malfoy?” Albus said,
“Draco, please.”
“Draco? Scorpius wants me to tell you that he never wants to leave.”
Challenge #20: What’s That Sound?

Summary: The trio is studying when Albus hears something.

“What’s that sound?” Albus Severus Potter asked his cousin and best friend. The three students sat in the library of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry one January afternoon.
“The sound of silence?” Rose Weasley asked, confused, as she looked up from the book she was scanning for references to Goblin rebellions for History of Magic.
“No, a faint voice. Barely a whisper.”
Rose frowned and sat in silence for a moment. “I don’t hear anything.”
“Scorpius? Do you hear it?”
Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy tilted his head slightly to listen for a few seconds and then shrugged. Albus bit his lip. “You guys really don’t hear it?” His two friends shook their heads in the negative.
“What is it saying?” Rose asked.
Albus listened for a moment. “It’s complaining about being hungry.” He furrowed his eyebrows, “There’s a shortage of food right now...?”
Rose and Scorpius looked at the other preteen like he was going crazy. Albus frowned and stood up. He moved around their corner of the library slowly, trying to find the source of the sound. “It’s coming from over here,” he said, moving down an aisle between two shelves of books.
Scorpius stood up and followed his best friend, leaving Rose to stare after them in confusion. Albus stopped about halfway down the aisle. Scorpius stood next to him and looked around. He could hear a hissing now. Scorpius searched for the source of the hiss and eventually saw it. A small green snake was curled up against the baseboard of one of the shelves.
Albus reached down and picked up the little snake. He smiled at it and made a soft hissing sound. Scorpius stared at his best friend in awe. Albus shrugged and headed back to the table. Scorpius followed him, mouth hanging open in shock.
“Did you find your mysterious noise?” Rose asked when Albus sat back down next to her. He placed the snake on the table. Rose looked from Albus to the snake to Scorpius, who was now gesturing wildly at the brunet. “What’s going on?” she asked, even more confused than before.
Albus grinned. “Apparently I’m a Parslemouth,” he announced before hissing at the snake some more.
