“Grandpa! Grandma!” Rose exclaimed in excitement as she dropped her egg and toast and made a quick dash for the screen door.
Hugo, who had been watching his food dangle in the air for some time now, also ran towards the door. Immediately, the sausage, eggs, ham, grits, and toast fell on to the table. To Hermione’s horror, only a portion of it had landed on the plate
“Hugo!” She yelled, but decided to let it go, since today they were having special guests. That and Hugo didn’t turn around or acknowledge he had heard anything, anyway.
“My, Rose, look at you! Your parents have been feeding you well,” Arthur said he walked in, and sweeped Rose off of her feet and squeezed her tight. He felt a tug, looked down, and saw little Hugo looking up at him with big beady eyes. Arthur let out a chuckle and rubbed Hugo’s head as he had done every time they met. “And Hugo, you’re looking more and more like your mother everyday.”
Behind Arthur was Molly, a rather large plate cradled in her two arms. “Oh, mother! Let me get that,” Hermione said as she grabbed the metal plate from Molly.
“It’s triple chocolate cake. Baked fresh this morning. I think the children will like it,” Molly said with a twinkle in her eye. She looked around as she walked in. “So where’s that busy son of mine?” She asked, not seeing Ron.
“He’s at work,” Hermione replied with a smile. “He’ll be home for lunch, he says he’s bringing a surprise. Wouldn’t say what it is.”
Molly leaned in and replied in a hushed voice, “He got that from his father. Always trying to plan surprises, but never saying what it is. Chances are he’s still making it up as he goes.”
“Bless you!” Rose said when Arthur sneezed.
“Thank you, Rose, you are just the sweetest,” Arthur said, giving her another squeeze.
“Grandpa, look what I made! Rose taught me how!” Hugo shouted as he ran back into the room. He had gone to the other room to get his paper crane. Except the paper crane wasn’t in his hands, it was floating in the air. It was a rather lively and friendly paper crane. It flew to Arthur and gently pecked him on the cheeks as a greeting of hello.
“That’s wonderful!” Arthur admired. He turned to Rose who was now getting rather heavy in his hands. “Did you do teach him that? You gotta teach me that!”
“Of course grandpa!” Rose said with a grin. “Grandpa, I think you can put me down now. You don’t look as strong as before.”
Arthur merely chuckled and nodded at Rose’s brutal honesty, and placed Rose down.
“Grandpa, I can teach you how to make a paper crane. But I can also teach you how to make a frog or purse or hat. Victoire taught me! She’s so awesome and smart. When I grow up I wanna be just like her!”
“Of course, who doesn’t?” A voice from the door said jokingly.
“Victoire!” Rose was excited again. She ran towards Victoire and gave her a big hug.
“I thought you’d be excited to see me,” Victoire said with a smile. “I’ve got some sweets for you and Hugo. On my trip to Beauxbaton, I saw this small, pink candy shop and immediately thought of you two.”
“Sweets?” Hugo pipped in. “I love sweets! Thanks Victoire, you’re the best!”
“Hey guys,” Fleur said, walking through the ever-busy doorway. “William’s in the car. Ron and him have a ‘surprise’.” She didn’t sound so convinced it was a surprise, either.
“I thought he was at work?” Hermione said aloud.
“Nope, he came to pick us up bright and early this morning. Unless he was at work at 3 in the morning, then I don’t believe he’s been to work today,” Fleur replied right as Ron and William came in.
“Daddy!” Hugo shouted, running up to Ron.
“Uncle!” Rose shouted, running up to William.
For a couple minutes, laughters and greetings filled the air. For everyone had not had time to see each other for many months, it was a truly wonderfultime for everyone.
“So… What’s the surprise?” Hermione finally said as things calmed down.
William looked to Ron, and ron looked back to William. They nodded and pulled out a box.
“It’s…” William began to say.
“What is it?” Rose asked, having never seen it before.
“Yeah! What is it,” Hugo repeated.
“A…” Ron continued William’s sentence.
If they were trying to build suspenseful, it was working. Everyone’s curiosity level was at it’s peak, yet William and Ron was merely teasing everyone.
“A karaoke machine,” Hermione said, not willing to stand the suspense anymore.
“’Mione! It was suppose to be a surprise!” Ron shouted.
“Well these things are common in the muggle world.” As soon as Hermione said muggle world, everyone ooh’d and aah’d.
“Mommy! What’s a karaoke machine?” Rose asked.
“Well… It plays the intrustamental versions of songs, and displays the lyrics on a screen so you can sing along,” Hermioned answered.
“Ohhh, I wanna use it!” Rose shouted.
“Me, too!” Hugo chimed.
With that, Ron and William forgot that Hermione had been the one the reveal the surprise. “Yes, lets!” They said in unison.
For the rest of the day, their house was filled with music, cheers, eating, shouting, mess-making. Rose and Hugo had one of the best days of their life.
