Title: What Might Have Been
Rating/Warnings: PG
Characters/Pairing: Percy/Neville
Summary: Neville reflects after the Final Battle.
Word Count: 415

Tired and covered with cuts and bruises, Neville helped carry in another body of a student. The student was wearing a Slytherin tie on their robes and Neville was surprised to find that he didn’t recognize the student. He didn’t know many of Hogwarts students, but he felt like he should know this boy who had died in defence of the same cause Neville had been fighting for. As he laid the boy down and stood up, stretching his arms tiredly he caught the eye of Percy Weasley where he sat with his family, surrounding the body of Fred Weasley.

As prefect and Head Boy the rule-abiding Weasley boy had seemed to take Neville under his wing, and Neville had hoped that it wasn’t just because Percy felt an obligation as a leader to help out his house mates, but Percy had never given him any reason to believe that for sure.

There had been hints, of course. He would catch Percy watching him as he was working on his homework. Or Percy’s hand was a little to ready to give him a lift through the portrait hole, his hand seeming to linger even after Neville was in the common room. Or sometimes he would seem like he was on the verge of saying something but then simply walk away. At those times, Neville was quite sure that Percy felt the same way about him as he felt about Percy.

But other times he wasn’t so sure. Like when he caught Percy snogging a Ravenclaw girl. Well, not so much caught as was led to catch. To this day Neville wasn’t sure who had left the letter telling him to go to the Astronomy Tower that night. The untidy scrawl looked like someone had gripped the quill with their off hand in an attempt to conceal their handwriting.

Neville shook his head. This wasn’t the time to be thinking about things like that. He was surrounded by hundreds of dead and injured people. He should be thinking about them, not thinking about how much he wanted to pull Percy into a hug and tell him he was sorry.

Instead, Luna appeared at his side. She took his hand and led him to one of the unoccupied benches. Neville felt Percy’s eyes on his back for a moment longer, and then he felt them leave and Neville knew that once and for all, whatever he and Percy had had or might have had was truly over.

Title: Blame the Kitten
Rating/Warnings: PG (for very minor swearing)
Characters/Pairing: Draco/Harry
Summary: Harry swears it is the kitten's fault.
Word Count: 653
Author's Notes: Written for etacanis

This, Harry decided, was all that damn adorable kitten’s fault.

If the kitten hadn’t ran away, forcing Harry to follow it to make sure it didn’t get hurt, Harry never would have collided with Draco Malfoy who had been sitting by the Lake alone, which was odd for Malfoy as he always seemed to have some kind of entourage.

Harry watched as the cat padded its cute little way up to Draco and rubbed itself along Draco’s leg, leaving a trail of white hairs on the black material of his pants. Harry half expected Draco to pick up the kitten and toss it away, but instead Draco scratched the kitten behind its tiny pointed ears and the kitten began to purr at the attention.

“Traitor,” Harry thought fiercely at his kitten, stepping forward so that his shadow alerted Draco to his presence.

Draco turned, a scowl on his face, “Potter, does this flea bag belong to you?”

Harry raised an eyebrow, “I saw you petting the kitten, Malfoy. It’s a bit late for the ‘I hate everyone and everything relating to Potter’ ploy.”

“It’s not a ploy,” shot back Draco.

“Uh huh,” Harry snorted, not sounding convinced.

He knelt down, calling the kitten to him, but the kitten just turned its big green eyes on Harry for a moment, and then went back to its current mission of trying to climb its way up to Draco face.

Draco tried to lift the tiny ball of fur from his chest, but the kitten just dug its sharp little nails in, refusing to release. With a huff, Draco gave up and fell backwards to lay on the leaf covered grass and the kitten preceded to celebrate its victory by licking Draco’s pointed nose with its tiny sandpapery tongue.

Harry bit back his laughter at the expression on Draco’s face, but Draco saw the grin as he looked at the boy-who-lived from the corner of his eye.

“Would you like to call your attack kitten off, Potter?” Draco growled, but the tips of his lips were quivering as if they were about to turn upwards at any moment.

“I would, but he seems to like you better than me,” Harry admitted.

“Not unusual,” Draco returned, “Your cat is obviously a smart animal. Alright, off you go,” Draco lifted the kitten from his face, and gave it a light push over to Harry.

The cat gave a pitiful meow, but obediently tripped its way over to Harry.

“I didn’t take you for a cat person, Potter,” Draco commented, sitting up and brushing the leaves that clung to his silver blond hair.

“I didn’t take you for an anything person, Malfoy,” Harry retorted, his gaze lingering at a small cut on Draco’s bottom lip caused by Harry’s kitten’s claws, no doubt, “Sorry about that,” Harry motioned to the cut and Draco put a finger to his lip, wincing slightly.

“What, you going to kiss it better, Potter?”

Harry froze, heat rising to his face as he thought of doing just that, “You’d like it too much.”

“I somehow doubt you’re that good of a snogger, Potter,” Draco rolled his eyes, though Harry thought he detected a faint blush on his well-known school boy nemesis.

“Wouldn’t you like to know.”

“Wouldn’t you like me to know.”

Unconsciously they had both moved forward, the kitten still in between them, looking back and forth between the teen boys. It gave a loud mewl as Harry moved a little too close and the kitten found that it was running out of room.

Draco and Harry jumped back from one another, faces burning brightly.

He had almost kissed Draco Malfoy.

But he hadn’t, and Harry felt a great wave of disappointment wash over him as he saw Draco’s eyes regain composure, locking away the emotions that had been running rampant just a moment before.

This, Harry decided, was all that damned kitten’s fault.

Title: Study Time
Rating/Warnings: PG
Characters/Pairing: Lily/James, Remus
Summary: James has a lot of homework to do.
Word Count: 486

“I can’t remember the last time I had this much homework,” groaned James, rubbing his eyes fitfully, and accidentally knocking a pile of books to the ground with his elbow.

He cursed as he tried to gather up all the papers that went flying. Lily calmly accio’d a couple that had almost drifted into the common room’s fire and handed them to James with a raised eyebrow.

“The last time you had this much homework was last week, when you also put off your homework the entire week.”

James scowled, “Yeah, well if you didn’t distract me all week with your girlish charms, maybe I would get my homework done in time.”

Lily rolled her eyes, “I do not distract you with my girlish charms. It’s not my fault you do not know how to focus.”

James returned all the papers and books to the desk he’d been using and gestured to Lily’s outfit. She was already in her pajamas, red and gold like any good Gryffindor, but unlike any good Gryffindor their was quite a bit less material.

“You’re telling me you think you can wear that and not distract me?”

“I’m telling you that I think I can wear anything I want and it’s up to you to focus.”

“Lilyyyyy,” James whined, grabbing hold of his girl friend’s arm and pulling her to him, and wrapping his arms around her so she her back was pressed tightly against him, “It’s like putting a pile of candy in front of Peter and then expecting him not to eat it.”

“Did you just compare me to candy?”

“Yes,” James told her solemnly, turning her around, “Delicious,” he kissed her cheek, “sweet,” he kissed the corner of her mouth, “candy.” He kissed her lips and her arms went around his neck, deepening the kiss.

“Ahem.”

Lily and James broke apart, Lily flushing furiously as she straightened her shirt. James ruffled his hair, trying to look nonchalant.

“Moony,” he greeted his bleary eyed friend, “You’re up late.”

“Lily made me promise to come down at this time to make sure that you were focussed on your homework.”

“Did she now,” James looked at his girlfriend a wicked grin on his face, “Can it be perhaps that Miss Evans has been having a difficult time keeping me on task?”

Lily crossed her arms across her chest, “You’re not the only one who likes candy, Potter.”

“Chocolate’s good,” agreed Remus, sounding as if he was half-asleep, and certainly not understanding the reference, “I’m going back to bed. Do your homework, Prongs.”

Remus returned to the stairway that led to the dormitory and disappeared up the stairs.

“I’m going to bed too,” Lily nodded firmly, face set, “Do your homework, James.”

She skipped out of James outreached arms as he attempted to make a grab for her.

“But Lily,” he called after her departing back, “You are a cruel woman, Evans!”
