It was hot as hell yet again the summer Lily Potter gave birth. She sat in her favorite shirt, which didn’t quite fit over her pregnant belly anymore, on the couch and felt rather like she was dying of heat exhaustion. “James. Is there nothing we can do about all this?” The one Muggle fan she insisted on buying was faced right at her and going on max. It was kind of hot and humid that made you feel sticky when all you did was sit and breathe. In fact, there were moments when Lily was quite sure she could cut the air with a knife.

Getting up from the other room, James came in and offered Lily a glass of ice water. “Would this help.”

Apparently it would not, as Lily just glared at him. “Just what I need, something that will make me go to the bathroom even more.” Regardless of the words, she took the glass and drank half of it all at once. She fished an ice cube out and rubbed it on her face and neck before adjusting her position. The past day or so, no matter what way she sat, stood, laid, walked, or generally existed Lily was uncomfortable. "Merlin's beard, this heat is too much. James, are you sure we can't apparate to Siberia?"

His bright eyes twinkled as he smiled at her, sitting on the coffee table near the fan. "Lils, I told you before. It's summer there, too. We need to go South. The far end of Chile, maybe? Or to South Africa? Although," he paused, thinking. "They do have some political unrest, do they not?"

It was at about that point when Lily's water broke and all hell really broke loose.

Sitting up in the bed, she held her arms open for the little baby. Snuggling it close, Lily looked down at the tiny pink cheeks and smiled.

"So James, I know what names you wanted for a boy." A giggle escaped her lips. "But since I told you it was a girl nine months ago and am right, what do you like now?"

First he glared for the simple fact of being wrong, then leaned back in his chair to ponder this. "No flower names, right?"

Lily nodded. "Absolutely not. Nor will we take your friend's suggestion and call her Siriusa. I will hurt him for that, you know."

James grinned from ear to ear. "You know, he was so bent on us naming the baby after him he wanted to make something like the sorting hat and make it a naming hat. Naturally everybody he put it on would be named Sirius after that." Mocking his friend in a playful manner, James mimed putting an invisible hat on and yelled 'SIRIUS' as if it were the real object.

When Lily laughed, the baby woke up a little and shifted in her arms before drifting back to sleep. "So I know you won't like this, honey, but my mother will be coming over."

A bit of a startled look crossed James' face. "Well why wouldn't she? Her grand daughter is here!" He paused again, clearly thinking rapidly. "We really will need a name soon then. She will try to name her Daisy or Violet." James chewed on his bottom lip entirely focused. "What about, since we wanted to call 'him' Harry, we go with Harriet!"

"Oh James, do you really like that name?" Lily wrinkled her brow, clearly disapproving.

Rather all at once there were people coming out of the Floo and into the Potter Household. It wasn't often they received visitors anymore for obvious reasons, but it seemed that a baby was a plenty good excuse to get everyone over there.

"Sirius. Quit shoving. They're not going to call it Siriusa!" That was Remus, quite literally throwing his friend against a wall to get into the room first. "HI!" he announced boisterously. "I am REALLY excited!"

SIrius followed after shortly, rubbing his ribs where Remus had elbowed him. "You think I'd know by now not to get in his way when he really wants something. So, what're you calling her?" His eyes lit up, waiting to hear his own name feminized.

"Harriet!" James exclaimed with a grin. He then looked at his wife, scowling. NOw that other people had heard there would be nothing she could do to change it. Certainly she could call the baby whatever she wanted, but since two other people knew (well, three really since Peter counted even though he was currently absent) it was more or less set in stone.

"Yes." Lily gritted her teeth. "Yes it is."

Remus peeked up over Lily's bright ginger hair and looked down at the tiny face. The sudden commotion had awakened the baby, and her bright green eyes looked up at the new face. "Sirius," he began softly. "Look."

Both new faces peeked over Lily now to look at Harriet. "She's got your eyes, Evans." It wouldn't matter how long the Potters were married or how many times Lily had corrected Sirius, it seemed she would always be 'Evans' to him.

It was Harriet's first birthday. She still had the chubby face of a baby, and sat almost perfectly still in the middle of the room. Looking around, she patted the nearest shiny box and giggled. None of her extended relatives were there, since so much was going on and the Potters had to go into hiding. Her family and friends were wonderful though, and sent their gifts in love and in many ways compensation for their lack of actually being there.

Carefully Lily unwrapped the first box with Harriet, making all the fuss in the world during its progress. "Look honey!" Lily held up a baby onesie and made it dance in front of Harriet. The dark haired baby had other plans though, and had the bow stuck to her hand and waved it about violently. She giggled and squealed as the magic bow changed colors and made fun noises while utterly ignoring her mother. "Look James, she really is your child. Absorbed in something silly and ignoring the big picture."

"That's how I met you, Lily. That ginger hair of yours was so distracting I just had to have you for myself." He offered a cheeky grin, taking the clothes from Lily to begin a gift pile.

"James Potter, if I find out that is true I will ask my mother to stay an entire month. And don't you think I won't ask your friends to find out!"

James sputtered, looking slightly concerned. "Oh come on, Lily! No fair!"

1083/50= 21.6+10= 32 points for the LOINS!
