The buzzing in my head might have been from the horns and trumpets that were played during the final seconds of class, signaling -- finally -- the end of the school year. Or it might have been the fact that I was two minutes -- now one minute and forty six seconds -- from leaving for the beach house with Teddy and couldn't contain my excitement.

And I know I shouldn't be in any way involved with him -- he is, after all, much older than I am -- but we hid it pretty well. Telling Mum and Dad that he was just cool to hang out with. I also added that we would be having adult supervision (George would be there, that counted as adult, right?) and there would be other kids from school there, too (okay, just Hugo, who, by the way, did suspect something between me and Teddy was going on but didn't peep a word, and my cousins James, Albus, and Lily). So oficially, it was more like a family trip but I saw it differently.

When we arrived by Portkey in the form of an old can of soup, Teddy was the first one to hug me, lifting me off the floor and spinning me around. I laughed and giggled at the tickles it sent down my spine.

"Wow, I haven't seen you in forever! And you're going to your seventh year now, eh?" Seventh year, I thought. Only one more year and I could go off to wherever I wanted and I didn't have to have Mum and Dad pestering me about what (or who) I was doing.

I nodded. "One year," I said and we fell silent, knowing what that implied. We had planned from the beginning of my Sixth year that as soon I was off at Hogwarts, we would tell my parents that we were together. We'd get a house just outside of London and we'd live happily.

Someone behind me cleared me cleared their throat. Albus, who was Teddy's little admirer, smiled at me. I moved aside, letting Albus do one of his man-slaps with Teddy.

"What's up?" Teddy said.

"Not much. I have to tell you about this girl, though."

"Oh, shut up, Albus! We've heard about this girlfriend of yours all year long. I thought you were over her long ago," Lily said. Dad often commented how Lily is just like her mother, Ginny.

Teddy laughed and he hugged Lily, not with as much enthusiasm as he did me.

When all the greetings were over, everyone moved over to the kitchen where George and his wife had 'cooked all sorts of delicious things.' Teddy and I, though, stayed behind in the now empty foyer.

The house was beautiful. It had windows that opened to a great view of the ocean and it was all white with hints of sky blue here and there. It all looked pristine. I knew that magic was put into cleaning this house. I doubted George (who, by the way, now lived here all year long) took any effort into cleaning.

"So, how was your year?" Teddy said, stepping closer toward me.

I took one step forward and looked up at him. I put my hand to his face which was unshaven and had an attractive short stubble in his shin and on his moustache. "It was perfect," I answered.

"Any boys?" Teddy always asked because he knew that I was young and bound to be reckless and driven by hormones. But he needn't ask, though. I was completely set on him. No other boy in Hogwarts or the world would distract me from what I wanted.

I shook my head. "I never," I said. Any further questions were drowned by the kiss that followed. His lips were soft and warm against mine and his hand was placed discreately on my lower back. I tried to fight the desire to pull his body closer to mine, knowing that at any moment, the kitchen door might fling open. It was enough time, though, for him to slip his tongue into my mouth, sweet and perfect, like the first spring morning.

Too soon, he pulled away. "I can't do this anymore," he said, almost in a moan. "I can't hide us."

I stepped back and looked away. "Teddy, we've talked about it. You know I -- we -- can't put our families through this now. It's just one more year and then we're free."

"Free," he whispered. I looked at him and smiled.

"A year," I repeated. It became sort of our mantra for the rest of the day.

That evening, while I was preparing to go to sleep, someone knocked on my door. "Yes?" I said.

"It's me," Teddy's familiar voice said. I went and opened the door, even though I was dressed in an oversized shirt and my pajamas. That's when I noticed what was in his hands.

"Oh!" I exclaimed, taken completely by surprise.

In his hands was the most beautiful blue rose that I had ever seen. In the light of the moonlight, they seemed to shimmer.

"For you," he said, handing it to me.

"What for?" I asked, taking taking it.

He ruffled the hair at the back of his head with his hand. "It seemed symbolic, you know? One flower for one year. A rose for well--your name. And blue because it matches the house."

I smiled. It was these little details that made me fall in love with Teddy Lupin all over again.
