Dobby paced the empty kitchen, wringing his hands in panic.
How could he have come so close to speaking evil of his former masters to Harry? Dobby knew that Mr. Harry Potter did not like to see Dobby hurt himself as a form of punishment. Miss Granger did not seem to like it either. But upsetting Mr. Harry Potter - after all the Great Mr. Harry Potter had done for Dobby - that was a far worse crime than speaking the most evil words of the Ma-Ma-Malfoys. The multiple layers of clothing that now covered Dobby suddenly felt heavy and constricting, but Dobby refused to remove a single piece. Wearing clothes was a symbol of his freedom - of what Mr. Harry Potter had done for him.
A flash of inspiration, having nothing to do with the frying pan that he was currently hitting himself with, struck Dobby.
Then and there, Dobby made a resolution. He would never again upset the Great Mr. Harry Potter.
The frying pan crashed to the floor, never to be picked up in punishment again.
