”42.”
She looked up from the stacks of files littered all over her desk, her eyebrows pulled into a distinct frown. While shuffling through the files looking for the one that always got away, she sighed heavily and pushed her frazzled hair over her shoulder.
“42 what?” she asked in exasperation as she ducked down under the desk.
He watched her from the doorway to her office, leaning lightly against the doorframe. His eyebrow arched.
“42 seconds until I take you out to lunch,” he said without enthusiasm.
The mood of his carefully planned answer had been ruined by the fact that she was currently sitting under her desk.
“What?” she called from underneath the desk where she was gathering up the contents of the file that had fallen down and spread out across the floor.
He repeated his answer with even less conviction and watched as she scrambled up from beneath the desk, hoisting back up into her chair.
“I’m not going out to lunch with you, Malfoy,” she dismissed, gesturing to her messy desk. “I’m busy.”
Seemingly unaffected by her refusal, he remained leaning nonchalantly against her doorframe.
“22 seconds now.”
“Stop being ridiculous!” She huffed and pushed a curl out of her line of sight.
“12.”
She glared at him.
“2.”
He shrugged, turned on the spot and walked away from her office, seemingly careless. Biting her lip, she lowered the file in her hand slowly towards the surface of the desk. She looked after him and then groaned in defeat, pushing away from her desk.
“Malfoy, wait!” she called, hurrying after him down the hall.
