Author's Notes: I'd love some honest feedback. I'm getting rather fond of writing fan-fic these days but I don't feel particularly confident in what I write.

Waking with a start, James sat bolt upright in bed. His hands were clenched into fists and his faced looked furious. Grabbing his glasses off the bedside table he walked, very loudly, out of the bedroom and slammed the door behind him. Hoping that he had managed to wake at least on of his friends up; he wandered down to the common room.

The weak moon light was all that was left dancing around the common room. A very eerie feeling lurked in the corners of the room when it was empty, but James didn't care. He was so furious with his own mind that he couldn't even entertain the thought of going back to sleep. For the first time in about a month his favourite armchair in front of the fire was empty. He threw himself in it heavily and shuffled around to make himself comfy.

"Cheers, you dick," Came a voice from behind him. Sirius was standing in the door way, hair sticking every which way possible and only wearing a pair of underwear.

"You all know how much I like to share my pain." James muttered through gritted teeth.

"Do go on." Sirius replied angrily as he seated himself in another armchair opposite his friend. Remus followed him through the doorway but remained standing, leaning on the back of Sirius's chair.

"I had the most idiotic dream imaginable." James began.

"You've got to be joking? You woke me up to tell me something that you should be writing down in a book you ought to have hidden under your pillow?" Sirius bellowed.

"Fine. If you don't want to know, then I will go and tell someone who cares." James said dramatically as he hoisted himself out of his chair. "Maybe Nearly Headless Nick is floating about somewhere." He stomped towards the portrait hole and just as he was about to step out Sirius called after him.

"No, fine. I'm awake now. You may as well pour your little heart out." Thankfully, James turned around on his heels and sat back down in his chair. He decided that fast approach was the best way to retell what had happened, especially with Sirius being so grouchy.

"And then, just as I'm about to kiss her, she vanishes into thin air." James stopped to take a breath. "What the fuck is that about? It's like my mind is on her side or something."

"That was a lucid dream." Remus said suddenly having not said a word since he entered the room. The other two had almost forgotten he was even there.

"Come again?" Sirius asked.

"Well. You said that you were kind of aware that you were dreaming. Like, you were trying to tell yourself to do things differently?" James nodded in response, a blank look on his face. "Well, those are rare. Not everyone has them! It's fascinating."

"Forgive me Remus, but that's not actually the most important part of this story." James said, the angry expression returned to his face.

"I'm aware of that. But I just find it fascinating."

"You said that already." Sirius chuckled. "Look James, it was just a dream. It didn't really happen, did it?"

"Well, that's not the point. The point is - it appears that I am on some journey of self-sabotage or something."

"Look, can't we just go back to bed, and Remus can go and read some books about it tomorrow or something?" Sirius suggested.

"You two feel free. I'm just going to sit here and think about the fastest way to put myself out of my misery."

Remus and Sirius didn't even have to look at each other before they both got up and grabbed one of James's arms each.

"Come on, off to bed, before McGonagall hears and tries to have you sectioned." Sirius sighed as he and Remus tugged James out of his chair.

"No! Leave me to wallow in self pity!" James shrieked, suddenly making his body limp so that the two boys could drag him no further.

"How mature of you, Prongs!" Remus groaned, his legs buckling beneath him.

“You know what?” Sirius muttered. He dropped James’s arm so that he and Remus felt to the ground and turned to walk up the stairs.

“Sirius?” Remus called after him.

“Just leave him! It gets boring after so long!” Sirius yelled back. “He’s like a toddler anyway. When he sees us walking away he’ll follow us.” Remus’ face was contorted as he tried to decide what the best option was.

“Sorry, mate!” He said to James after a few minutes of contemplation. Heaving himself up, he followed Sirius up the stairs. Taking one last look at his pathetic friend sprawled on the common room floor he rounded the corner to the dormitory. No sooner than he had done so, he heard James chasing up the staircase after them.
