Harry crept across the cold, stone floor, listening for Uncle Vernon's monstrous snores coming from upstairs. He held his breath and slowly eased the kitchen door open, praying it wouldn't squeak like it normally did. He flipped on the lamp and stared in awe. There they were. Dudley's birthday presents for tomorrow morning. Stacks upon stacks of brightly colored packages of all shapes and sizes, tied up with string and ribbon, filled the entire kitchen table. Harry sat down in one of the chairs and gazed longingly at the boxes. Someday, he thought, he would get his own birthday presents.
