Title: Detention

Characters/Pairings: Draco, Neville

Genre: humor (well, that's what I was trying for, anyway)

Ratings/Warnings: G

Word Count: 336

Draco couldn't believe the nerve of Professor McGonagall, giving him a detention and forcing him to serve it with three Gryffindors?  What could be worse?

Serving that detention in the Forbidden Forest under the supervision of that beast Hagrid.  That could be worse.  Draco's jaw and spirits dropped as the words rolled out of Filch's sadistic mouth.

Draco trudged off with the others, feeling sorry for himself and wishing Crabbe and Goyle were there to pummel Potter for him.

As they weren't, Draco would just have to make the best out of the situation.  He smirked when Hagrid assigned him to search the forest with that coward Longbottom.  Honestly, Draco thought, what was the sorting hat thinking when it put that boy in Gryffindor?

Draco set off on the trail into the forest, Fang at his heels and Neville trailing nervously behind.  It didn't take much effort to distract Fang, in fact it took no effort whatsoever.  Fang caught sight of a bowtruckle and was feverishly sniffing at it.  Draco crept a few feet off the trail and waited for Neville to catch up.

Neville spotted Fang and approached him cautiously.  "Did you find something, boy?"

Draco crept up from behind, his wand at the ready.  "RAWR!" he yelled as he poked Neville hard in the back.

Neville let out a scream and sent red sparks into the night sky.

Draco doubled over in laughter.  "Do you know what you sounded like just then?  You screamed like a little girl!" he said between guffaws, tears forming in his eyes.

Embarrassed and angry, Neville turned a deep shade of crimson.  He glared at Draco, not turning away even when he heard Hagrid crashing through tree branches and undergrowth to find them.  But only the anger in Hagrid's face was enough to stop Draco's laughter.  He hung his head, not in shame, but in disappointment that his fun had been ruined.

"This is going to be a long night," Draco grumbled to himself.
