The wizards were at war with each other and people would die almost daily. I was a sixth year at Hogwarts. Mother decided now was the best time to marry another man. It made me roll my eyes. I thought it quite an immature venture, to be marrying someone who would most likely be gone in a year while a madman was murdering and torturing children.

She had sent me several owls during the school year, gushing about her newest husband. He was rich, certainly. But, he owned businesses in Diagon Alley and she would find someone to handle them once they were hers. I would inherit them one day. I could not care less. Honestly, as though I wanted to own businesses. We certainly had enough money for me to inherit already.

When I returned home for summer holiday, her newest husband to be was waiting for me. He greeted me at the door instead of my own mother. I laughed to myself quietly and rolled my eyes in amusement. Honestly. Did she expect bonding? Did he?

He was a muggleborn, but rich. The man was quite brilliant and that is how he had obtained such wealth. With the war, mother thought it best not to marry purebloods. Mudbloods were not missed as the war went on and people disappeared, if the need came. Especially powerful mudbloods.

All summer they prepared for the wedding and it amused me how utterly the fool believed Mother loved him. How wrong he was.

I almost felt badly, he was a nice. But that worked out for him, I think. When Mother wanted a divorce he would readily hand over half of his wealth without a thought. He spent each day trying to find time to spend with me each and every day. I really did want to get to know him just a bit but I knew it would be pointless. He would be gone as soon as I did. He brought me gifts, almost as many as he brought for Mother.

At the wedding I sat and watched as they exchanged vows and my mother hid a smirk behind her veil, knowing she would soon have aqquired more wealth. I watched his face and saw how he loved my mother, I felt sad that she would be hurting him.

When the wedding was over I had a conversation with Pansy Parkinson. She intended to marry Draco for the same reasons my mother was marrying this men though Pansy was not stupid enough to believe she would ever be able to leave that marriage. I vowed to her I would not do the same. That is why after the war Pansy and I married out of love. Somehow we had both come to love each other through the war. We were a bit in the same boat, I suppose. And war feeds romance because your own mortality is brought to light every day. So, we married and we loved each other and my mother she died lonely.
