'The next seven years of my life are going to require a lot of scotch.' Minerva thought to herself as she waited for the two Gryffindors to arrive for their detention. A long three hour detention due to the fact that within ten minutes of their first class with her, on their first day of classes, the Wonder Twins, as they called themselves, managed to transfigure the Slytherins' needles into centipedes.

A good piece of magic for eleven year olds, she mused for a moment.

The two small figures made their way into her office. "Professor."

'Oh bugger, which one was this?' She thought, masking her pause with a stern look.

The twins looked at each other with knowing glances.

"Gideon, Fabian, Madam Pomfrey is waiting for you in the Hospital Wing. She has lots of linens that need folding and chamber pots that need cleaning-" Fabian made a face. "If that doesn't suit you, Mister Prewett, you'll think twice about causing mayhem in my class."

"But can't she use magic?" Gideon asked, to which Fabian immediately nudged him, shaking his head ever so slightly as if to say 'For the love of god, you twat, shut up.'

Minerva looked sternly at the young boy. She went to school with his father, same sort of sass. She should have expected this. "Gideon," She hoped to Gryffindor that she didn't pick the wrong name, "you can scrub all the chamber pots just for that comment. Fabian is to fold linens. Do not try to pull the wool over Madam Pomfrey's eyes or try to make sad faces all night, Fabian Prewett."

"I wasn't, Professor!" Fabian replied, furrowing his brow and standing up a little straighter.

Several hours later, they reported back looking a little tired and almost...pleased? Typical Prewett reaction. "I hope you two have learnt your lesson and that you'll be spending more time attending to your studies or perhaps preparing to try out for Quidditch next year and less time in my detention."

Trust them to take that to heart and spend more time in other professors' detentions.

An entire year passed and she felt as though she was exponentially aging. Exploding toilets in the Slytherin dungeons, knights bedecked in gaudy jewelry, dungbombs in Defence Against the Dark Arts, the Prewetts were a handful that she had not been prepared for. When she surveyed the list of names of the upcoming first years, she hoped that the following year, the class of 1978, would prove to be a little more well-behaved than most.

They all sounded like good children, but the looks on the Prewett Twins' faces when Black, Lupin, Pettigrew, and Potter were sorted into their house made her apprehensive. With good reason.

It seemed the first thing on Potter and Black's agenda to outstrip the Prewetts in pranking, and therefore detention. "Mister Black, Mister Potter, you are to go with our game keeper into the Forest-"

"WICKED." They chorused.

"This is NOT a treat! It is a punishment. He is collecting supplies for the Potions class and requires two torch bearers." Minerva replied primly. But woe betide her, they came back muddied and exhilarated.

The years, they came and went. The detentions became more intensive and the pranks just as worse. The Prewetts left. "Finally." She thought, though she saw them again soon drawing a swell of pride when they joined up the Order. The gregarious twins even going so far as to joke with her about their detentions.

"We got your name in the Christmas present exchange, Professor-"

"-We almost wrapped it in a bedlinen-"

"Good lord, this isn't a chamber pot, is it?" She asked.

"Oh, Fabian almost bought you one."

The four younger Gryffindors, with that year in between, took it upon themselves to outdo the Prewetts and since then there has been a competition among the Gryffindors to make their mark on the school. She almost wanted to hug Lily Evans for finally saying 'yes' to Potter, at least it made him behave. Relatively.

Things changed around them, a melange of loss threatening to make people a little more cautious, more solemn. The Prewetts, gone, unable to impart their wisdom of pranking to their nephews (though Minerva morbidly thought this may have been for the better of her nerves). The inseparable four, broken. Their grand plans to change the world, James Potter Monument to Great Achievements in Chasing being one of them, cast aside.

So, it was to Minerva's silent joy that she gave the Weasley Twins their first detention for chucking Dungbombs into the Quidditch locker room, to give Harry Potter his first detention for sneaking out at night with some story about a dragon.

She hated the phrase "History has a tendency of repeating itself." But maybe it was because this time, this time she wanted things to turn out for the better.
