Dark, cold places
bloodied skin
bloodied teeth

every dog is barking
every house is mourning

and you are
a coward
a survivor

the crossfire got you
what else was there to do?
while everyone else was going mad
or falling into graves
you almost tasted the wet dirt
so what else was there to do?
than to turn your back
lower your eyes
break a word
let the green light
summon darkness
it was them
or you

you look at your home one last time
your mother taught you better
than to give her
a piece of a betrayer's hand
a senseless walk
to the cementery
you

almost
human
for the last seconds
and you have never looked uglier

you don't want a murderer
in your mother's house
you don't want to watch her
mourn the hero you could never be
as she poisons food
to kill you

so you run
the nickname of your adolescence
mocking the joke you have become
the wind might scream you are
a coward
a murderer
you scream back that you are alive
human or animal
still breathing

when the world is a sinking ship
rats survive
