I watched as Bellatrix took her first sip. Her eyes widened and she struggled valiantly not to cough.
“Not quite butterbeer, is it?”
Her voice came out hoarse. “Not quite, sir.”
“Smile, Bellatrix. Everyone’s watching. No - don’t look around. Look at me. And look like you can handle that absinthe as well as any man here.”
That got to her. Her spine straightened and she took a slow, pointed swallow of the stuff, licking her lips after.
“Excellent. Don’t overdo it now.” I extended my elbow to her. “Let’s take a turn about the room, shall we?”
