But she feels fragile every time
And she’s too important to break.
Her honey-kissed skin.
His light hair.
Her too-intelligent gaze.
His eyes.
He sees her in her smile -
Though it doesn’t come often
Because she got his temper -
And he can’t believe he gets to say,
“This is my daughter.
This is my wife.
This is our family.”
And though her eyes are cornflower blue,
They call her Rose.
