Peter wrapped his cloak more tightly around him. It wasn't his best cloak -- that was a fur-lined scarlet cloak that his mother bought him when he finished his seventh year at Hogwarts -- but it was warm and kept him mostly invisible against the backdrop of the inky night time sky.
He didn't like this sneaking around, hiding under cover of darkness to meet with his handler, but he didn't have a choice. Peter's days were filled with wedding planning, stag night chats, pestering from his mother about his own 'settling down', job interviews, drinks at James's house, evenings out with Sirius and Remus, Order meetings at the Hog's Head -- all things that Peter couldn't get out of. Not that he wanted to get out of them, no, he didn't, but he would have liked if just once, maybe, he didn't feel like he was as invisible at any of those places as he felt traipsing through a still field outside of Windermere.
He could see the light up ahead, the glow from the tip of a wand, and as he turned down a carriage trail, he nearly tripped over a rock. Steadying himself, he kept walking, the folds of his heavy black clock tangling around his knees.
Amycus Carrow waited for him at a gate, wand lit, puffing a long, thin cigarette that gave off a nutty smell. Peter held in a cough. "Have you got the information?" he asked, his voice muffled round the cigarette and mumbled into the crisp air in that horrible cockney accent Carrow had.
Peter nodded. "Wouldn't be here if I didn't," he grumbled.
"Carry on, wot, Pettigrew."
He fiddled with the fraying edge of his cloak, at stomach-level, his fingers tightening in the coldness. He hesitated, but not too long. He wasn't keen on being on the receiving any of any of Carrow's notorious cruelty and … persuasion.
So instead of wasting any more time, Peter Pettigrew did what he came in the middle of the October night to do -- give Amycus Carrow information about the Order of the Phoenix that he would take to the Death Eaters and, ultimately, to the Dark Lord.
