"This isn't good," He mutters to himself, turning his around and trying to figure out his surroundings. It's almost like he's in complete darkness, if it wasn't for the fact that he could see the outline of something up ahead. He moves forward before stopping and letting out a breath, looking to the side and back in front of him.

"C'mon now, Potter. You were a bloody Gryffindor," He mumbles to himself, straightening his shoulders and narrowing his eyes as the outline ahead moves further away. Despite the small pep talk though, he's still incredibly hesitant to move forward, almost like something is stopping him from doing so.

"Bloody hell," He sighs just before shaking his head and letting out a breath. Why is he so hesitant to walk towards the outline in front of him?

"You can do this," He whispers while shifting his left foot forward. It almost feels like he's walking again, with how slowly he's doing this, and he almost rolls his eyes at himself. When he looks back towards the outline, he's surprised to notice that it's no longer there, and blinks slowly, trying to understand what's happening.

"How did I even get here?" He asks himself, slowly turning in his spot with a frown. The last thing he remembers, he was at home, and he was with Lily and Harry. It was Halloween, and they had been home for a short period of time, having just come back from trick-or-treating.

"That was such a funny little thing," James chuckles to himself with a shake of his head. He had thought Lily was crazy, when she had mentioned the muggle tradition. Finding out that numerous people did it though, James couldn't help but laugh and want to try it for himself.

"That was a good night," He murmurs to himself before frowning, wondering why he felt so uneasy.

"What am I missing?" He questions while shifting on his feet. Suddenly, a flash of green light is blinding him, and he has to close his eyes because of the brightness.

"Shit," He murmurs after a few minutes, his eyes going wide as the rest of his memories of the night come back to him. Peter had betrayed them and Voldemort had found them. That one thought ran around his head for a good five minutes before James sighed and looked up.

And then he proceeded to blink in surprise, as everything had become covered in lightness.

"Alright, that's…odd?" James whispers to himself while shaking his head slightly and stepping forward, since he can finally see in front of him to actually walk.

He doesn't know how long he's walking for, just that it seems pretty aimless. There's nothing around him, nothing but white light and it's something he just doesn't understand. When he feels like he can't walk anymore, he falls to the floor in a heap, his mind replaying his last thoughts over and over.

He's dead. He's dead, and he can accept that. Sure, he's incredibly upset that he'll never be able to see his Harry grow up. He'll never see Harry talk more than he already is, or play pranks on others with Sirius and him, or even get his Hogwarts letter. He's upset about it, but he can accept it.

And sure, he'll never see his best friends again. Or tell everyone it was Pettigrew that betrayed him. Or be able to hold his Lily in his arms, either.

"As long as she doesn't end up with Snape," He mutters quietly to himself.

"Now, why would I want to end up with Severus Snape?" He hears a familiar voice to his left and he turns his head towards it, eyes widening once again at the sight of his lovely wife.

"Lils," He sighs, shoulders dropping, knowing that she didn't make it. She gives him a small smile, stepping closer to him and holding onto his hand.

"He'll live," She whispers, a few tears coming down her cheek. James brushes them away as he sighs and looks ahead.

"You went with the ritual, then?" He questions, chewing on his lower lip in thought. He always had his reservations, when Lily showed him the ritual, wondering if it would affect their son in any way. But he trusted Lils with everything he had, so he said nothing.

"Yes. I can only hope that Sirius knows what to do," Lily responds and James nods his head, a frown on his face as he begins feeling like something is going to happen that won't be good for anyone in their lives.

"I wish I could see what's happening right now," He sighs while stretching out his legs and playing with Lily's hand. The silence that ensues lasts too long for either Potter's to like it and by the time they want to say something else, it almost seems awkward.

"So, what now?" Lily questions and James looks over at her, trying his hardest not to shrug in response.

"You could always come and follow me," Someone says and both turn their heads to their right, eyes widening when they recognize an old classmate that was killed early on in the war. She's radiating warmth and happiness and boy, does James really want to follow her.

"We should-" He begins, only to be dragged into a standing position by his wife as the other female giggles.

"Why don't I remember your name?" James hears Lily whisper and he turns to her in surprise.

"Lils, you're great at remembering names."

"I know." Lily whispers as the other female continues to giggle.

"Lily, my dear, you don't remember my name because I don't want you to. Not now. Someday, maybe," She answers before turning around and walking away.

"We should follow her."

"Definitely." James replies, walking forwards with Lily's hand in his.

He doesn't know where this path is going to take him. He doesn't know what is going to happen to his small little family. He only knows that whatever does happen, he'll accept it with open arms and a grin on his face.
