Neville felt absentmindedly in his pocket like he always did. He felt the familiar coin and turned it around in his fingers a couple times before pulling it out. He was once again disappointed. He had repeated this ritual a hundred times before but it was always a disappointment when he pulled the coin out and nothing had changed. No one had called for a meeting. No one had called for help. No one had even called to just see how everyone was doing.

That coin symbolized so much. It symbolized friendship, unity, love, bravery. It was a promise between all of them that they would be there. If any of them needed something, they would be there. If one of them was in trouble, they would all be there. He knew that here was a lot of division between the houses because of the constant competition between the houses. This was something that brought them together. When they were in the DA none of that mattered. They weren't Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, and Ravenclaws. They were just part of Dumbledore's Army. Too bad nobody from Slytherin had joined. It probably had nothing to do with not wanting to. There must be a lot of stress and fear in that house because so many of the families were Death Eater families. Even if someone wanted to they wouldn't feel safe joining the Army. He didn't hold it against any of them.

He remembered how amazing it had felt, being a part of Dumbledore's Army, being a part of something. He had friends. He had a purpose. He remembered how much he had learned and how good he had gotten throughout that year. He had continued to get better this year as well, but it all started in the DA. He knew what Harry said was true. He knew Voldemort was back, and he would be ready. He would fight Voldemort himself if he had to. He knew what kind of horrors the Death Eaters could inflict on people and the kind of pain they caused. Nobody he loved would ever go through that again if he could help. He couldn't stop it then. He couldn't help his parents. It would not happen to anyone else he loved.

He turned the coin over again in his fingers and glanced down. Still no change. He wondered why Harry, Ron, and Hermoine always tried to do things by themselves. He would lay down his life for them if that's what was needed. He had been affected just as much by Voldemort's last reign as Harry and certainly more than Ron and Hermoine. If there was anyone that could relate to Harry's pain it was himself. He wondered why Harry had never wanted to talk to him about it.

He missed being with everyone, and feeling the comradery that came with being in the DA. He knew it was probably silly to think the coin would ever change. He glanced down at it again and gave it one last turn before returning it to his pocket. It might be silly, but he would always check that coin. He would check that coin until the day Voldemort was dead and gone.
