Hermione smiled as Ron came up behind her and gave her a small kiss on her neck as he nuzzled her hair. “How is my beautiful wife?”

Hermione softly laughed. “Who are you and what have you done with my husband?” She leaned back on him as she turned her head to kiss him.

In response, Ron just hugged her tighter, “Can’t I do the romantic thing once in a while?”

“Sure you can. Just it isn’t like you and you know that I love you for you.” Hermione said as the action outside the frost covered kitchen window caught her attention. Outside there were six children running around laughing and throwing snow balls at each other. Three of them with fiery red hair peeking out of their caps while two had black hair. The third and the tallest of all the children had bright blue hair. Hermione couldn’t see where Harry and Ginny were but she knew that they were also out there.

Ginny had been helping her with the dishes as the men took the children out to play in the snow. Barely twenty minutes had gone by before Ginny was distracted enough to excuse herself and head outside. Hermione had chuckled to herself knowing that Ginny had the same adoration and desire for Harry as she had for Ron even after all these years.

With Ron still hugging her tightly from behind, Hermione continued to watch her two children, Rose and Hugo, play with their cousins including their honorary cousin, Teddy. When she had been at school, never in a million years did she think that she would have ended up marrying Ron Weasley and having two children with him. This Christmas marked their seventeenth spent together in the past twenty years. She still couldn’t quite believe that she had known Ron and Harry for twenty years. Their friendship had survived various ups and downs, sharing the good and the bad together. In Ron, she had found her soul-mate albeit her exact opposite and in Harry she had found the brother she never had.

All this reminiscing about their past made her recall the last Christmas which she had spent only with Harry and not with Ron. It had been in the height of the war when the three of them were searching for Voldemort’s horcruxes. Ron had left after a massive fight with Harry, leaving her alone with Harry. Hermione shivered slightly as she remembered the icy snow that fell on the graves in Godric’s Hallow. She could vividly see Harry in her mind’s eye standing in front of his parents’ tombstones. He had stood there alone and lost. It was only then did she realize the heavy weight that Harry carried on his shoulders. It was in that very moment in which she had regretted that Ron wasn’t there with them, that he wasn’t there for her. So she was secretly very happy when a couple of days later he came back and had saved Harry’s life. Of course she couldn’t have shown that to either boy so she comprised by alternating sobbing on Ron’s shoulder and then hitting him.

“What are you thinking about?” Ron’s voice broke through her reminiscing about the past. She smiled softly and replied, “I was thinking about that Christmas where you had left me and Harry in the Forest of Dean.”

Ron winced. “I was really stupid back then. But why were you thinking about that particular Christmas?”

“It was the first one that I realized how much you really meant to me.”

Ron nodded but didn’t say anything as the children together with Harry and Ginny came back inside.

Rose, who looked like a mini-version of Hermione albeit with Ron’s coloring and appetite, came up to Hermione pleading, “Can we have hot chocolate and biscuits? Can we please?”

The other children eagerly nodded their heads in agreement and when Harry and Ron added their own nod, Hermione just laughed. “Of course you can. Go into the family room and play a little. I’ll call you when the hot chocolate is ready.”

The children and men didn’t need any more prompting as they all barreled out of the kitchen. Only Ginny remained.

“That works every single time.” Ginny commented as she got out the biscuits. Hermione nodded as she started the kettle to make the boiling water for the hot chocolate. She had decided early on that she would use muggle appliances when she could. She definitely wanted her children to grow up with knowledge of both worlds.

It wasn’t long before the two women were joining their husbands and children in the family room. Once everyone had their hot chocolate and biscuit, Hermione found herself snuggled close to Ron on the couch. After a few minutes, he whispered into her hair. “You know what my favorite Christmas was? The one when we got married.”

Hermione couldn’t help but agree that had been a wonderful Christmas. She could still see the dew drops of moisture that clung to the trees and furniture after they had brought them inside from the light snow. Hermione sheepishly recalled how upset she had been that it had snowed that day (the forecast that year predicted a snow free Christmas day) since she had big plans to get married outside. So her plans had been derailed but saved with some magical assistance that she had made sure her family had been unaware of. But all her worries disappeared as she walked with her father down the white aisle to Ron. It had been perfect.

A happy tear escaped her eye as she glanced up toward Ron. “That was a great Christmas.” She agreed, feeling emotional and nostalgic just thinking about it, as he hugged her close to him. But there had been others just as wonderful as was the present one. Hermione remained cuddled beside Ron watching the children play on the carpet together. Occasionally someone would reach for the extra sip of hot chocolate and an additional biscuit. She had her two wonderful children, a great husband who loved her, and an extended family who accepted her for she was. Nothing could have been better and she doubted that there could be another Christmas that would be even more prefect than this one.

But she couldn’t have been more wrong because twenty years later, on Christmas day, Hermione found herself straightening her daughter’s bridal dress. Rose’s reflection looked radiant in the floor length mirror.

“I can’t quite believe that you’re getting married today.” She uttered as she fixed her daughter’s headdress. “Much less that you will be marrying Scorpius Malfoy. “

That particular pairing had come as a huge surprise. Never in her wildest dreams did Hermione imagine that her own daughter who was the perfect mix of her and Ron would fall for the son of Draco Malfoy. Ron had been particularly angry when he had found out about the two. Hermione, on the other hand, had been extremely confused and surprised at first because from what Rose had told her over the years, she assumed that they had actually hated each other. She had always heard the infamous stories of Rose and Scorpius fighting like cats and dogs. But when Rose confided in her that she had started to develop feelings for him, Hermione could sympathize and relate. It was hard for a young girl to have those feelings for a boy and that is why she had been secretly delighted when Rose confessed to her that Scorpius had returned her feelings. That had been four years earlier and here they were about to get married.

Trying not to ruin her make-up with more tears, Hermione just hugged Rose as the door opened and Ron appeared. He didn’t seem to be the happiest of fathers and as he gave Rose a hug, he mumbled, “That boy had better treat you right, Rosebud.” To which, Hermione just rolled her eyes. Her Ron was a stubborn person but he was still her stubborn person.

Finally leaving her daughter and husband behind, she rushed into the Astronomy Tower where Rose and Scorpius had first confessed their love to one another and took her seat. As the wedding march started to play and Hermione turned back to watch her husband escort their baby girl to her future husband, she couldn’t help but think that this Christmas was a pretty much the perfect one of all the ones she had in her lifetime so far.
